QB Patrick Ramsey, who took a beating in 2003, stands to gain the most from the return of coach Joe Gibbs, who believes in protecting the quarterback above all else. But Ramsey must learn to throw the ball away instead of trying to force it and committing a turnover. Gibbs believes that sometimes the best plays a quarterback makes are the ones he doesn't try to make.
Trung Canidate's days as the team's primary running back probably are over.
CB Fred Smoot improved his upper-body strength last offseason and showed more toughness this season. If he hits the weights hard again this offseason and makes similar strides, few teams will have a set of starting corners that can equal Smoot and Champ Bailey. Added strength will help Smoot (5-11, 170) be more physical in press coverage and in his tackling.

Strength training used to be a signature of Gibbs, now everyone does it year round. It'll be interesting to see how much he can milk from these guys in terms of body training.

Trung will be used like Joe Washington and if he produces like him, that will be a good thing!!!!
Here comes many months of the media republishing the same basic information over and over again in slightly different words when they don't have a story. What's new.

I really liked what Chad Morton gave us on 3rd down and it makes more sense from a roster efficiency stand-point to keep the guy who can do more for your team...thus keep Morton and get rid of Canidate...

Makes sense. I wouldn't argue with it. Kick return guys are great to use on screens because of their open field skills.

I can not see Trung here next year. I am not sure who will be available but we will have a new starter next year with Betts and Cartwright as backups

Morton has got to stay. He was not great in 2003, but he was steady. Decent third down back [best since Larry Centers] and a solid return man. Only one turnover all year and he matched that with one return for TD. No reason to cut him. Above all, Gibbs wants his kick returners to hold on to the ball and that's what Morton did last year. Gibbs would much rather have a guy who never fumbles than a guy who is a threat to bring it back.

Plus, he did that with poor ST blocking.

Well Patrick Johnson fits into neither of those catagories so I guess that rules him out.

They ought to try and trade Trung and try and get a 4th round pick back.

How about cutting Betts and keeping Trung? Get a real deal power RB and keep Trung (and in some cases, Morton) for 3rd downs. IMO, speed never goes out of style!

Chad v. Canidate...
Chad! Versatility & reliability.
Any word on Champ? Gotta get him happy.

Geesh, I am not sure you would even get a fourth rounder for Trung. What had he proven in 2003 to be worthy, especially because, if as team is as desparate as we were last season, they will just wait for Gibbs to axe him. Everyoen knows he is nto a Gibbs type back and if we utilize a third down back, which we will, it will most likely be Morton. I see Simon, McCullough, Canidate, and Betts all part of the Redskisn past soon.

Morton is from the same mold as Brian Mithcell..so I think he will stay. Plus his contract wont make it easy to cut him :)
