How much would it take to get Ogunleye and/or Howard. Ogunleye had like 15 sacks last year and has only three years experience.......i want him.

I think he's more the result of playing on the same line as Jason Taylor than a really great DE. Besides, I'm looking for the Dolphins to re-sign him.

Both of you are forgetting Ogunlaye will cost us a first round pick.

Exactly... Hes a RFA and will probably get top protection (1st, 3rd)...
We should focus on Kearse, Winstrom, and Howard...
I personally think Winstrom sucks... but thats just me...

Leonard Little is a free agent, is he not? He's the one we should be going after.

I don't recall seeing Little on a FA list. I also think that we should not go out buying RFAs this year like we did last year. I think we can find serviceable help without giving up compensation and only having three picks last year hurt us. We need to maintain our draft picks this year.

Little got signed to a monster deal last summer. I love Grant Wistrom (perhaps more from my love of Nebraska than anything) and would rather have him than Howard. I think trading away a top 5 pick is foolish, so we should focus on those two. Howard was injured last year, but he did have the best United Way commercial of the year.

Trading away a top 5 pick is not foolish (see Ricky Williams Trade). It's also not a bad idea to pick up an additional draft pick.

I may be wrong...but didn't Ogunleye play the left side of the line, since Taylor played the Right. I'm assuming he got a few more sacks simply becuase he played against the weaker OT...
Just brining this up, as we would surely use him on the right side...

I may have misread the ESPN article, but I could have sworn it saida 1st and a 3rd for Ogunlaye.

What is Howard going to cost?

They are both the same age, but one is an UFA. We shouldn't even be having this discussion

Howard and winstrom. Forget Wally he's too expensive and unproven, consistency. Howard is probably the most underrated of the group and possibly the best when healthy at getting to the Qb.

Agreed, but I'm sure the author of this thread did not know Ogunleya was an UFA.

If I am not mistaken, the Rams have plenty of cash and may not let Winstrom go easily. I think he would be a good addition if we could get him.

i htink the rams are strapped for cash. so winstrom might become available. but look. we are only talking about big name free agents. i think gibbs might sign some unknown guy that could become a huge star.

uhh i say ogunlaye but i would hate giving up our #1 for him. I Really dont want howard either. get kearse, abraham or wistrom

We would probably have to give up a #1 for Abraham as well.

Howard is thebest choice for this team. You can not give up a #5 for RFA. Last year it was a 13 pick. a #5 is a pick that you use to put better players on the feild.

HOW MAny sacks did Widstrom have last year?

Any status reports on the Jets' attempts to re-sign Abraham? And is Ellis a free agent this year, too?
Green-Is-Good
01-14-2004, 08:16 PM
Yeah, a RFA. But when there are quality DEs that are unrestricted, why pursue a RFA?
Ellis and Abraham are both free agents. The Jets are 3.5 under the cap. If we could sign Shaun Ellis that would be a great pickup!

Isn't he a RFA?

According to an ESPN article I read Ogunleye is a possible Cap casuality with the Dolphins having 1/2 of their cap dedicated to Madison, Seau, Taylor, Surtain and Zach Thomas.
However, if they can get those guys to restructure and they offer Ogunleye a 1 year contract for 2M they would be entitled to a 1st & 3rd as Compensation. It is likely that the Vikings or Texans (Teams with the need and the cap room) not only give the compensation, but also give Ogunleye the $7M per season he wants.
I'd never count Dan out if it was the money, but we cannot afford to give up our entire draft on him.

I honestly don't think Ogunleye is all that good. Call me wacky, the man did put up 15 1/2 sacks, but... seems to me he's benefitting from "I play next to Jason Taylor" syndrome.
Green-Is-Good
01-14-2004, 09:52 PM
Yeah, nothing against Charles Grant, but he's no Jason Taylor.
Keino

JDS...people said the same thing of Charles Mann because he was on the other side of Manley. The guy runs a 4.5 and has an impressive Rip move and call ME crazy, but I think he's better than every D end on our roster.......
I still don't think obtaining him makes sense for the team in the grand scheme of things.
JoeDaSchmoe

I'D be better than every DE on our roster. ;)
I'm not saying he wouldn't be an upgrade, but I think he'd cost too much due to his overinflated stats.

Yes. We agree on that point, no doubt about it.

We should not give up compensation when we don't have to. Howard is the answer

Can someone confirm Abraham/Ellis. I thought that Ab was a RFA and Ellis was a FA or both were RFA.
We are DONE with RFA. Don't even sweat thinking about it. It was a one year deal, we only have 4 picks this draft.
Howards sounds pretty good. Winstrom too for a decent price. The market looks really weak so i think the prices will balloon. ie. dre bly last year (even though he def earned it last year)

This is strikingly familiar to back when we signed Stubblefield. He had a monster season next to Bryant Young (I know it was DT, but the parallel is the same). Stubby never turned out to be anything special. Not only did he not sack QB's, he never stopped the run either.
Ogunleye is flat out not worth our draft, and to make matters worse, he MIGHT be living off someone elses coattails.
