Ranking the RB's

I compiled this list with the Redskins in mind. Most are pretty big and can be effective running inside. I'm not saying that Turner is far better than Jackson, I'm saying that I'd rather use a second on Turner than a first on Jackson. Players with a (*) by their name have a little description below.

(this is my list, so tear it apart if you like)

1. Kevin Jones (Top 15)
2. Greg Jones (Early 2nd round)
3. Micheal Turner (2nd Round)*
4. Adimchinobe Echemandu (3rd-4th round)*
5. Cedric Cobb (4th-5th Round)*
6. Mewelde Moore (late 3rd-4th round)
7. Steven Jackson (Top 20)
8. Clarence Farmer (4th-6th Round)*
9. Chris Perry (2nd Round)
10. Jarrett Payton (3rd-5th Round)

I really like something about these players below. Check it out.

Turner
Pros: He is a strong powerful inside runner with great speed to take it to the outside. Has excellent balance, is elusive, a good receiver with KR experience, and big play ability. Shows great athleticism and is a great all-purpose back.

Cons: Needs work on blocking techniques, footwork in open field running, and although a good receiver in college, could refine his techniques. A concern is the lack of quality competition he has faced in the MAC and it may affect some scouts.

Echemandu
Pros: Excelled as a KR, is a punishing power back with excellent speed & athleticism. Hits the opening hard, breaks tackles, has quick feet, shows ability as a receiver, and is often described as a slasher. Has excellent attitude and work ethics.

Cons: He needs more exposure in the passing game to develop further as a receiver and in pass protection. Lacks experience and has had some medical and academic problems costing him valuable time in the lineup. Good upside.

Cobb
Pros: Cedric is a smooth and fluid runner with great size/speed combo that is elusive, can take it outside, or pound it up the middle. Great stiff-arm, good vision, patient, powerful lower body, breaks tackles, good receiving skills.

Cons: Needs to improve pass protect and blitz recognition, otherwise, the complete package. However, he has had a lot of maturity issues, off the field baggage, and an injury history which all will make him a “Boom or Bust” pick.

Farmer
Pros: Good sized RB who plays faster than times speed, good open field vision, elusive, good in pass protection, big play ability, experienced, great athleticism, has all the tools to succeed at the next level of competition.

Cons: Needs to improve his route running and pass receiving techniques, needs to run with more authority between the tackles, some questions in regards to durability do to an injury to knee, but attitude is the big problem with him.

It will alot easier to rate these guys after the combo's in Feb. 16-21. I am kind of on the Steven Jackson bandwagon, but I can see where you're going with this. The only problem with Greg Jones is whether or not we can trust his knees.

IF Turner stays projected at the second round, he'll be a steal. The stuff about him needing to improve his blocking, HELL that is true of every RB that comes out of college. None of them are ready for what they'll experience in the pros.

Echemandu sounds like a redskins back

Great post, I agree with everything you said, especially with your ranking of Moore and Farmer (who nobody talks about). I don't agree with your ranking of S. Jackson though. I think he is the best RB in the draft in terms of being a franchise back.

Are you saying Cedric Cobb is better than Steven Jackson, or is that just a randomly assembled order?

No. I'm saying that i'd RATHER use a 5th rounder (which i don't think we have yet) on Cobb than use our first rounder on Jackson. Basically this is a value/quality rating.

The reason that i don't really like Jackson is that he had a very low YPC compared to any back in the top 20 this year. I think it was the lowest actually at 3.9 a carry.

Silly question: knowing that they are locked in the first round, will Jackson or Jones even test at the combine? I hope they do to clear up this stuff...
