In my opinion. We need to look elsewhere, if we indeed stay at #5.
In all his years, Gibbs has never USED a runing back that he drafted to run his offense. It was always a veteran who wouldn't fumble or make mental mistakes. The things that really make Gibbs mad.

I wouldn't entirely agree with that. Ricky Ervins was a rookie in "91, Gibbs' last Super Bowl. I think he was our leading rusher in the playoffs and the Super Bowl that year. He played quite a bit, although the starting honors still went to Earnest Byner.
In fact, when we were 7-0 and went to play the Giants that year, and our offense was going nowhere at half time, Gibb's turned to Ervins in the second half to jumpstart the offense by using him on the "Pig Gut" series and we eventually won.
So, if the rookie is worthy, Gibbs will use him.

Gibbs was also here when we drafted Timmy Smith which played pretty well one postseason

Erm... 28... you do know that there has been a rookie 1,000-yard rusher for the last nine straight seasons, right? Do you think Clinton Portis had no impact? LaDainian Tomlinson? Domanick Davis? Jamal Lewis?

I just don't see Jones as a Gibbs type back

Joe, nothing in post is relevant here, but to play your game, how about Ron Dayne, Larry Johnson, Ki-Jana Carter, Lawrence Phillips, Blair Thomas, etc.
Anyway, I was refering only to Jones and Jackson. Jones runs too high and gained most of his years against terrible teams. He needs to be coached well to be effective. As for Jackson, who I think is the better back, he needs to work on his vision, as he runs in a strait line to much. I think Jackson will be an very effective back, but not in his first year.

I'd say my post is relevant. You said that no RB drafted will make an impact next year, and I listed plenty of rookies that made impacts. Yes, there have been busts, but what do you want us to do, avoid the draft altogether because there's a chance we could pick someone who won't pan out?

Jones has as much talent as any back I've seen. Were you watching him against Miami? You want him to not play well cause V-Tech scheduled some soft teams? I've seen him run with some power even when he was upright and he's got amazing speed. Plus I've seen him make some incredible cuts. What more could you want from a running back? LaDanian Tomlinson played at TCU so I guarantee you alot of his opponents weren't all that great. Kevin Jones is gonna be a star in this league and there have been NO signs whasoever that should point out otherwise.

I disagree BC, and I've seen him play alot. You talk about Miami, but I saw him lay down against WVU. I think he will be servicable in the next level but not special.

M. Turner will make the greatest impact next year (who ever he plays for and of course barring injury)

It really comes down to the team picking the RB. MOST teams select 1st round RBs with the intent to make them the stater in the future.
Check out the (12) first round running backs over the last 4 drafts:
8 of the 12 RBs were selected for the prime purpose of being backups in their first year.
W. McGahee - Backup for Henry (plus injury)
L. Johnson - Backup for Holmes
TJ Duckett - Backup for Dunn
D. McAllister - Backup for R. Williams
T. Jones - Backup for Pittman
R. Dayne - Backup for Barber
S. Alexander - Backup for Waters
T. Canidate - Backup for Faulk
4 of the 12 RBs were selected to be the primary ball carries for their team in their rookie year. (Or at least that is how it panned out.
W. Green - Cleveland's primary ball carrier, yet split many carries with Jamel White. Got less than 1,000 yards in rookie season.
L. Tomlinson - Brought in as numero uno RB and racked up well over 1,000 yards rushing. (and a good amount receiving too)
M. Bennett - Was primary ball carrier in his rookie year, yet didn't notch 1,000 yards.
Jamal Lewis - Primary ball carrier in Baltimore and racked up well over 1,000 yards.
Obviously the Redskins are looking for a PRIMARY ball carrier, so the odds are stacked in their favor of finding one at #5 who is better suited at notching 1,000 yards than one who isn't.
