View Full Version : Duce Staley

Highly impressive yesterday against a very good defense. He reminds me (hopefully Gibbs too) of Ernest Byner and he'll give all the Sean Taylor fans out there hope. I think he can deffinately be a feature back and carry 25-30 times a game, plus he'd be motivated to beat the Eagles.

01-19-2004, 02:02 PM
I agree.. He looked really good yesturday except for that last pass route he ran. He looks like he could be effective in the mud in RFK (to bad we don't play their anymore).... I think Canditate can be a good third down back.....

Can't say that I've been a fan of his before, but I too was impressed with his effort yesterday. Very hard to get this guy down with the initial contact, and he has spin moves also.

01-19-2004, 02:19 PM
I never really liked Duce before either but I don't want to waste a #5 pick on a RB that might not play for Gibbs right away.

01-19-2004, 02:24 PM
Like staley, he has heart!

01-19-2004, 02:28 PM
Be real....we don't need him in D.C.......he is no comparison to a John Riggins, George Rogers or Ernest Byner. Let him out of D.C.

I agree he has heart. He has had a couple 1000 yd seasons but we can do better. I'd cringe if I ever went to a Redskin game and we chanted DUCE!

01-19-2004, 02:29 PM
Staley breaks tackles, moves piles, runs well, catches a good ball if thrown right (McNabb was dying when he threw that ball), blocks, hey I'd get him in a heartbeat. He'd be great for us Skins

01-19-2004, 02:35 PM
We can switch from BRUUUUUUCE to DUUUUUUUCE

From what I'm reading, both the Skins and cowpukes will be going after him.

01-19-2004, 03:11 PM
It pains me to say this...but I have also been highly impressed with Duce's playoff performances.

What about Smooooooooooooot?

Duce gets a lot of yards after initial contact. I love how he fights for extra yardage.

01-19-2004, 03:48 PM
Duce already said today he believes his Eagles career is over. He'll cost less then Corey Dillon, might be just as effective and will allow is to focus on defense and tight end in the draft.

01-19-2004, 03:49 PM
He doesn't demand as many touches as Dillon, either.

01-19-2004, 04:03 PM
I wouldn't be hatin' Duce on our team....damn nice fit if you ask me....hail

01-19-2004, 04:04 PM
I like duce. I think he's our best FA option at the moment.

01-19-2004, 04:14 PM
I think the guy has class also. I didn't hear him say a bad thing about his team all season, considering the contract crap that was going on with him this year.

01-19-2004, 04:16 PM
We may be able to get by with Betts in Joe's system. He's worked miracles with worse. He really needs to shore up those sorry O and D lines first...

Hail Almighty JOE!!!!

01-19-2004, 04:35 PM
I would prefer to look at other means first! We don't need anymore players from the beagles, cowgirls or the ants. They have not turned out well so far.

01-19-2004, 05:10 PM
Of the FA this year, i like Duce the best.

I was reading plenty of posts on the Eagles board, begging the FO to keep him. He plays with a lot of heart.

ps -- the Eagles board was getting blasted with posts from outsides coming in to pour salt into their wounds. I was LMAO at the Philly fans getting upset with all the bashing. It reminded me of the scene from the move "A Christmas Story" where the "bully" gets pummeled.

01-19-2004, 06:52 PM
He's quick, tough and has a desire to win, what's not to like?

He's been impressive as of late. I think that an extra fire of leaving the Eagles is starting to be lit. I think he'd be an excellent pickup.

01-19-2004, 07:11 PM
Duce would probably be my #1 choice, although it'll take a while before I manage to croak out a "DUUUUUUCE" at FedEx.

Hail Almighty JOE!!!!

Welcome to hailRedskins.com Hogsballs66, glad you joined us here. That's very true about Gibbs but I'm hearing the Buges really like the personnel on the oline. Now the dline, that's another story.

01-19-2004, 07:46 PM
Welcome to hR Hogs. Glad to see ya here.

Buges will do well with this offensive line. I saw him state that this line has more potential and current talent than what was waiting him in the 80's. He really likes this line and absolutely loves Samuels and Jansen. I suspect in Hog schemes, Jansen and Samuels will return to pro bowl form.

Now the DLine. There i no DLine here. It needs built from End to End, middle throughout.

980 (SportsReporters) talked to a Eagle fan in Philly today, and he said that the pulse of the city is that they will get rid of Buckhalter and re-sign Staley, so it may not be a done deal that he is leaving them.

01-19-2004, 08:02 PM
Why all the speculation about a FA RB? Our D-Line demands help - now - before anything else....If the house is on fire, you don't look for the paint can and roller, you find the damn fire extinguisher first!:smash:

01-19-2004, 08:31 PM
Because, Nam, the fire extinguiher won't be out for a month, so we might as well decide what color the house will be when we repaint it.

01-19-2004, 09:07 PM
best free agent but dont for get wat happend when we got vetrans with and old coach marty era

01-19-2004, 09:25 PM
I was down on Duce because he held out, but after watching him last night I think he was the best Iggle on the field. I doubt the Eagles will want to let him go after that performance, but I have changed my tune in regards to Staley. I say bring him in if we can.

01-19-2004, 11:19 PM
Did anyone see how he never went down on the first hit, and always fell forward? That impressed me more than anything. He screwed up earlier by holding out, that might have cost him more yards, and thereby more money. I would like to have him here if we had a change of pace guy who could take some strain off of Duce.

01-19-2004, 11:20 PM
I guess that guy could be Trung, it worked in STL.

01-19-2004, 11:30 PM
Anybody got his stats for this season?

01-19-2004, 11:53 PM
96 carries - 463 yards (4.8 ypc) 5TD
36 Receptions - 382 yards 2TD
2 Fumbles lost

01-20-2004, 01:01 AM
I like Duce... It would've been nice to see Watson still here. I always thought he had alot of the same traits as Duce. Ohhh what he would have been with some reps....:(

01-20-2004, 07:00 AM
I don't think Joe will draft anyone in the #5 spot that can't play right away. That is another difference in today's NFL and when Joe was last here. With the salary cap, you no longer have the option of drafting someone high and having them sit for 3 years to develop. By the time that happens, they are a RFA and you have to make a decision to keep them or not.

01-20-2004, 08:21 AM
I hope we get Duce it would be a quick fix for our RB situtation...maybe Betts could then be groomed to fit the role later.

01-20-2004, 08:54 AM
I think Duce could give us 3 good years. Looking at his numbers, he has only had more than 250 carries once in the last four years. He is a very low mileage back who plays with heart and can usually break that first tackle. After having spoken against him a while back, he's my top choice for RB, draft or otherwise. Jones and Jackson might end up as better backs, but this gives us a very solid solution and allows us to use the draft to fill DL holes.

01-20-2004, 08:57 AM
Also to note: He's a career 4.0 ypc guy and I believe he has a high median yards per carry, which I much prefer over mean yards per carry.

01-20-2004, 09:08 AM
Did anyone watch Duece miss that sure TD pass that went right off his hands in the first qtr?

Doesnt really define the type of player he is... but he sure missed a beautiful opprtunity to make himself look great in the market.

01-20-2004, 09:18 AM
I like Duce too - my only problem is that stunt he pulled in the beginning of the year- that didnt show team support.(that was duce right?)

01-20-2004, 09:24 AM
It was Duce who held out.

Also looking at his split stats, He seems to explode right from the start because he only had more than 10 carries once this year and turned in a pretty good average. I think feeding him the ball 20+ times and 10-15 with Trung/Morton/Rock would be pretty solid.

01-20-2004, 09:42 AM
Duce over Dillon, but he's GOTTA catch that downfield pass...

01-20-2004, 09:45 AM
Staley was easily the best RB on that Iggle team. Got to wonder if they split the RB duties so his stats would not be as impressive and he couldn't command a lucrative contract in the offseason.

01-20-2004, 11:00 AM
Duce missed that pass, but he is a good receiving RB.

But he also made a great catch when McNasty over threw Duce on a screen and Duce was able to tip the ball in the air and then bring it in and got a decent gain out of it.

01-20-2004, 11:25 AM
I heard someone say yesterday that he has the highest yards per touch of any RB in the league this year.

01-20-2004, 12:19 PM
I'd believe it. I'm surprised the Iggles didn't use his rushing more to take the pressure off their mediocre WRs.

01-23-2004, 02:11 PM
Lets remember something...he was always fresh which made his numbers look good....The beagles used (3) backas this season and rotated them. sadly, I live in Eagle country and have the misfortune of seeing them weekly. He is not as good as you all think. Heart, Yes!..Toughness, Yes..but inconsistant and will never be able to carry a load like Joe will expect. Just my 2 cents! If he becomes a Skin, I'll puke!

01-23-2004, 02:40 PM
Yes but before his injury he did carry the load and was very good at it. They never even gave him a chance to proove he could bounce back and I think he has.
