View Full Version : Vikings Rumor

There is a rumor on the net that the Vikings are willing to trade this year's # 1 and any running back on their roster for Champ. This could solve a lot of issues for us.

Stop taking stories from extremeskins and posting them here

01-27-2004, 04:16 PM
No, please do keep posting all relevant rumors here.

I hope it doesn't happen, don't know why, but I want Champ here.

01-27-2004, 04:35 PM
i want champ here bennent, williams, or smith are no where near gibb caliber backs and champ is not only worth 1 #1

01-27-2004, 04:37 PM
Ontario Smith is good, but not a Gibbs type back... Id trade Smith a #1 and a #2...

01-27-2004, 05:25 PM
If they were desperate (or dumb) enough to make that trade (and I doubt that they are), I don't see how we don't jump at it. Michael Bennett is a really good back and young. Champ is a great corner, but their are plenty in FA and we would still have a first round pick. I think the Vikes would be getting the short end of the stick if a deal like this was made...its likely hot air.

01-27-2004, 05:31 PM
Yeah, I'm not gonna buy this rumor until I see more. Not the smartest move the Vikes could make.

01-27-2004, 05:37 PM
Hey, definitely don't stop posting any rumors you hear from anywhere. It's good to talk about them.

I think Gibbs might take Williams from those three if this deal was made.

01-27-2004, 05:43 PM
You guys dislike Dunn, but now you're saying Moe Williams is an every down back?

01-27-2004, 05:43 PM
Dunn and Moe Williams are like a Corvette and a freight train.

And, for the record, yes I am. Williams was an every down back for part of this year and played very well.

Michael Bennett has a 4.7 CYPC average, last year his average was 5.0. He is 5-9 and 211 pounds. Remind you of anyone? I think he only started a few games because he broke his foot last off-season. The only problem I have with the idea of taking a Vikes back is that it seems that anyone can rush well in their system and with there o-line. But this guy has jets…

01-27-2004, 06:05 PM
I'd take Michael Bennett and a #1.

01-27-2004, 06:10 PM
I'd keep Champ, by trading him we only create another hole at CB that needs to be solved. And none of the Minnesota backs are that much of an upgrade over what we currently have to justify it.

01-27-2004, 06:20 PM
I would no question trade Champ to Minn for a #1 (like 17 I think) and Bennett. We could go and get a solid CB in free agency (Winfield, McCallister, et al) or draft someone like Robinson from SCarolina, Poole from SCal, or Strait from OK.

01-27-2004, 06:23 PM
Well, while we should think long and hard about keeping Champ, not to long, or to hard: you are nuts if you think we have a back that could hold a candle to A Michael Bennett, or any other back on their roster. Lets look at some stats of Bennett's:
2002 Minnesota Vikings G 16 GS 16 ATT 255 Yards 1296 avg 5.1 LG 85 TD 5 20 + 9 FD 47

Yeah, Ladell and Trung can do that.

01-27-2004, 06:27 PM
If the rumor is true, I would take Bennet and the #1. I think he would be a huge upgrade over any of the guys we have. I do think that Rock could possibly fill the position if given a full chance.

01-27-2004, 09:56 PM
I would jump on that in a minute...with that number 1 we could do so many other things....or do we take Bennett a number 2 and 3. So that we can really address some issues we have..their will be plenty of decent players available in rounds 2 and 3. Benett would definalety help us. We could also pick up a decent corner in FA and draft one....But I know you guys love your champ..lol

01-27-2004, 09:57 PM
The Skins should only even remotely consider this if the Vikings threw in more draft picks

01-27-2004, 10:08 PM
What are you talking about if the Vikings threw in more draft picks? Let's see, we're talking about trading Champ for 2 #1's when we'd be getting a #1 and an RB better than any we could draft using a #1. This would be a bad deal for the Vikings.

01-27-2004, 10:12 PM
yeah man, i would def take that trade! Bennet and another pick, sean taylor plus another good solid defensive pick like randy starks, thats one nice helluva draft!

01-27-2004, 11:02 PM
I'd like that trade, especially if we could get Winfield (FA) or Ware (draft)

If we do that, do you think we could get something for Trung?

01-27-2004, 11:52 PM
when i first heard this on extremeskins, i didnt have an answer for it, but now that i think about, i probably wouldnt be for it. i just dont want to see bailey on another team (unless he wants an arm and a leg). i want to see this team keep a solid core together and i see bailey being a part of that.

01-28-2004, 12:13 AM
keep in mind one thing, if the Skins re-sign Champ, Smoot is gone after next year

What are you doing at that "other" site?

01-28-2004, 06:21 AM
That is a very risky trade for both. ..... We'd need to get a solid CB to shore up that position. In the draft sure, but then we're using the pick we obtain (#1, or #2) and where would that put us - with a player that has no experience. ........ The only way it would work in our favor is to get a good FA CB and that's highly unlikely (the key word to that would be "Good") .

01-28-2004, 09:12 AM
Champ for Bennett and Vikes give us their #1? Won't happen. We would have to throw another player in.

01-28-2004, 09:14 AM
I don't believe the rumor anyway.

I think Champ will stay, Gibbs has said he will stay, and supposedly promises were made to GW.

01-28-2004, 09:26 AM
i'd much rather keep bailey than to trade for the vikings pick and one of their backs. but i think this is completely false. why would the vikes give up so much for a free agent, not to mention it would be all over the sports news.

01-28-2004, 09:30 AM
Keep Champ, swap picks, give them an additional lower round and get Bennett.

01-28-2004, 10:26 AM
As far as posting rumors from other sites...thats fine by me...we like to hear all the different rumors.

01-28-2004, 10:34 AM
well, also consider that none of the RBs on the Vikings roster are RB that Gibbs likes. They are small, quick backs. Gibbs like someone with power

Minnesota Mike

I haven't heard this rumor out here in Vikings country. The couple of Vikings fans I have run it past were kind of surprised to hear it, and wouldn't want the Vikes to give up that much for Champ.
