For me it would it would have to be Patrick Ramsey. The Kid is tough and humble. He is a blue collar type of QB and has talent. A close second would be Coles for his worth ethic.

I agree PAtrick and Coles might be the only 2 as of now. Lets see what Joe can do about that

Coles was my first thought. Even though he got a big contract, he produced. He was never happy with his production, always thought he could do better, never complained that he wasn't getting the ball enough, but rather pointed the finger at himself for not getting open more. I thought he was a class act all season and worthy of the money he got.

I think he will post scary numbers with Gibbs in charge. He is the most athletic and complete WR we have had since Gary Clark.

I like Jesse Armstead. A leader by example!

Intresting pick Seebs...can you give me more reason why you think he does. Not meant as argument just thought your choice was intresting and would like to know why you think he fits the bill.

My answer to the apparent question of defensive player is (drumroll)

Lavar Arrington

The guy just signed an 8year deal to stay with the Skins.

He's going on what? Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator #5?

Plays solid football year in and year out since he's been here and just made a commitment to stay even after the toughest 5 years in recent history.

Says a lot to me. I hope Champ follows the example.

Jansen was who first popped into my head as well PSF.
I also like Coles, but he's only been with the team the one year so...I pick Jansen because when I think of a classic Redskin, I think of the big, quiet guy that silently shows up game after game and works hard without getting any glory...one girl's opinion

Jon Jansen

This guy could have absolutely been one of the hogs. Big, strong, nice guy with a nasty mean streak. Just like Grimm, Jacoby, and the rest of the hogs.

I respect your decision, but I disagree with the logic. Lavar played far from solid football this year, considering how often he (and Trotter) were out of position, the most glaring example of that being the failure to cover the Giant fullback out of the backfield in the first Giants game in which they won in overtime. Collins lofts the ball over his head and it turns into a long completion which puts them in FG range to win the game. All Lavar had to say later was "If I make the play, were not here talking about it". That's a poor attitude. What he should have said was "I was wrong, I blew the coverage and this loss is on me." Our star players, minus Coles, do not take accountability for themselves when they fail to perform.

Sorry, this went in a different direction at the end.

Best times of the skins have always been marked by great vetran players that we didn't draft. Armstead has been a true force those past 2 years playing very hard and letting the light for others. He is a true blue collar type player, a team player. I think those are good reasons to consider him as a "true" redskin.

Good points Seebs...he is lowprofile type guy. I hope we keep him.

thanks for the reply :)

while I agree this may not have been Lavar's best year, he's in the Pro Bowl for a reason.

I agree the attitude may be a little cocky but hell, what else do you want from a star linebacker?

Monte Coleman was an excellent player as well as Ken Harvey, but so was Wilbur Marshall(who loved to talk smack)

Correct me if I'm wrong(I'm missing out on sleep to cruise this awesome site :) ) but if I remember correctly, the play your talking about against the Giants, Lavar was caught in one of those split decision situations: break out of the flat and pressure the QB or drop back a little deeper into coverage. So, what would people think if he hadn't gone for the QB and dropped back into coverage, clearing the flat/underneath for Collins to run for the first down? He would have been wrong either way. I think he's correct in saying if he had made the play it wouldn't be an issue.
Again, I could be remembering a different play but I think we're talking about the same one.

Either way, the guy is an allstar linebacker who's played on, let's be honest, a really crappy team for the last 5 years. Yet, he signed a contract to stay here, for whatever reason. He could've gottent he same money elsewhere, but he didn't even test the market.

To me, that says a lot, he likes playing here, the fans the orginization and eveything else.

Having the opportunity to test the free agent market and fish for dollars but deciding to stick with his team even through the adversity brings Darrell Green's loyalty to mind.

He may be more brazen, but hell, why not? He's a linebacker, and we all know that linebackers all have at least one screw loose somewhere;)

That's why I pick him(as the up til now, absent) defensive pick, offense? I HAVE to go with Patrick Ramsey, poor kid took an absolute beating this year, while apparently having a broken foot, kept coming back, kept refusing to lose or get dejected.

IMO, both have 'Skin written all over em

Good stuff syphy...you actuallt made me think a little better about Lavar. I was kind of down on him because of the comments he has been making lately but you know what he has been there through all the tough times and I hope he gets a ring.

Rock Cartwright.

He's a seventh-round draft pick that wasn't expected to get much playing time all year. But he always stepped up into whatever role was asked without any complaints, always tried to do better, and always gave credit to his teammates. He didn't brag or point out that he was better than any of the other running backs. Just quietly did his job and always seemed to get the tough yards.

Yeah, I know, he isn't a true "Gibbs-style" player. But when I think Redskins tradition I don't think about offensive schemes, I think about heart. And Rock's got plenty of that.

I like coles...he reminds me of monk....low profile always wanting to get better and never a finger pointer....even though he's making money...he's showing dan that his money was well spent.

thx Tex

Glad I could help :D

IMO Lavar is undeniably one of the best linebackers in the game and we're lucky to have him. He's consistently made play plays for us, some of which have been game/season turners.

Now while given our record over the last couple of years, imagine if we had a consistent team that all played at the same level as Lavar and provided the same big key play AND had the kind of leadership/structure Mr Gibbs brings to the table?

Imagine an offense that could capitalize on the key turnover/sack/short yardage stop that Lavar brings to the table...

....and could find a way to win the 3 point margin game....

Remind anyone of '91?

he's a key piece to that puzzle, and if he talks a little too much, he's entitled to, he's one of the few that has earned the right to, one of our few pro bowl players over the last few abyssmal years.

I love our offensive line as I was a guard in high school. It pained me to see them get beat all the time. I think when they start clicking under Bugel, I think they will be a force this year. Dockery seems like he could be a new Big Banga (without the injuries). Coles also embodies the work ethic we need on this team. He had four catches one game and told the coaches HE needed to work harder. Hard not to like that guy. Ramsey is also a great kid with the same work ethic. Quick to find things to to improve on. Slow to gloat on his own merits. Just like Gibbs.

coles.....jansen......ramsey are hard working tough guys.

on defense, armstead probably is the only one because he is a smart vet. otherwise, we need a new attitude on the defensive side. a little more toughness would help.

i like lavar arrington. he is always challenging his teammates publicly. personally, i think getting questioned in the media is one of the most humiliating things that can happen. waht do you do, you work harder so that it doesnt happen again. i think its effective, but thats my opinion. arrington is like ray lewis by pushing his teammates, just not the same results.
