When do we franchise Champ?

There is something like a 4 day window when designations have to be made, prior to the start of FA. This year, I think it is between February 24-28. Also, I think the FA signing period starts on March 1st or 3rd.

What are the franchise rules? I only ask becuase I hear Baltimore can franchise McAllister again if they don't reach a long term deal.

I thought you could franchise anyone for as many years as you want, that's why guys like Walter Jones in SEA keep holding out every year, because they've been franchised 3-4 years running. If that's the case, we could keep franchising Champ until he retires (unlikely though) or until someone signs him. For the cap though we would be better off signing him to a long-term deal.

But has anyone heard anything about Champ getting a contract offer? I would think this is the best time to do it, before the free agent sweepstakes begin.

This will probably be a good measuring stick for what Champ wants, with the belief of course that Champ will want more.

so he wants basically a 20 million dollor signing bonus? i sure hope his base salary is like 500k-1,000,000 a year then...cause thats ONE HUGE ass signing bonus.

If Champ is signed after we franchise him, then Smoot is GONE, the Skins cant afford both of them
