View Full Version : Bradley's Theory

I believe that a post that has been made within this Brunell discussion was lost in the madness, but I for one would like to highlight it and bring it up for more discussion.
Richard Bradley threw out the possibilty that maybe Rod Gardner could be packaged for Brunell. They seemingly need WR help, and if I'm not mistaken, he is from Jacksonville or nearby.
What if a pick isn't involved at all, but it's Gardner that is the bait in pulling this off?
Let me say that I welcome the deal even if it involves the 2nd rd pick. I welcome it even more if it is for Gardner and we keep our pick.
Thoughts?

Well, as much grief as Gardner has taken for drops, I think a quality receiver like Gardner, in his free egency year, is likely to have 80-90 catches. If he doesn't, in Joe Gibbs system, then he wouldn't be worth keeping anyway.

My only worry about dealing Gardner would be is McCants ready to be a #2 reciever???
He's been good this season but he's mainly been used in the red zone. Also that leaves us without a #3 reciever, none of our recievers have shown capable of being the #3 reciever on this team yet. I like Jacobs but is he ready to be the 3rd guy after he struggled with injuries last season.

I could be alright with that. I think they are still getting the better end of the deal, but I think it's important that we keep/maximize the picks we have this year.

I have a friend who works for the dolphins who said that a WR is what Jacksonville wants for Brunell ... Gardner is from Jacksonville so it kinda makes sens. This is also the friend who told me the skins had signed Randy Thomas 2 hours before it was reported

My problem with Brunnel in general is this...what does this do to the psych of Patrick Ramsey? Ramsey is developing. I am not ready to sit here and say Ramsey is great, or even among the league's elite. BUT, he has progressed steadily and can probably thrive in the max protection offense of Gibbs. Why do we need such a high caliber backup? Gibbs never had high powered backups. Jay Schroeder? Babe Laufenberg? Jim Hart? Stan Humphries? Jeff Rutledge? These guys were not former pro bowlers. These guys were not big ticket backups. So, questions still is, is Gibbs not impressed with Ram? Is Gibbs doubtful Ram can lead his offense? Why the change in philosophy?

Steve Young backing up Montana didn't hurt Joe Montanas psyche. If Ramsey is that sensitive he ain't gonna make it no how.

I think from the start Gibbs has not been greatly impressed by Patrick. Right off the bat he said he felt getting an experienced QB was one of the teams biggest priorities. I think he saw what a lot of us saw this year. A QB with a lot of talent but still probably needs another year or two to develop. And with the beating he took last year if he were to take another year or two of beatings like that he may be out of the league. Brunell is a guy who recieved a lot of credit for how he worked and helped Leftwich last season. He is also still capable of starting and winning in this league. He's been around the block a few times and he is a very intelligent QB. I think letting Ramsey sit on the bench for a year or two would be good for him. He gets to sit back and learn from a quality QB who has been to the playoffs and the pro bowl. Ramsey had problems last year during the season, he was very up and down. Brunell provides us with some experience and veteran leadership.

Well, Jacksonville did already get Kevin Johnson, who's supposed to be an excellent posession receiver.... I still wouldn't like this, really. I don't want to touch our receiving corps.

I would rather trade Champ for Brunell and their first rounder than Gardner for Brunell straight up.

Bailey only equals 2 first rounders if somebody is willing to give that up. And most reports have said that the most compensation the Skins are likely to recieve is a 1st and a 2nd or a 1st and a 3rd but very unlikely 2 firsts with the market of CBs being so full.

Mark my words. Gibbs is up to something much greater than we all think he is. He is going to surprise all of us with some kinda scheme that none of us are expecting. Watch and see.

Losing Gardner for Brunell isn't as bad as the second rounder since Gardner might be gone in a year anyhow... but i still don't like it.

I can deal w/ that scenario. There's some other bums on our roster that I'd like to package w/ Gardener too. Not to say that Gardener was all that bad, everybody digressed under Spurrier's country club atmosphere.

you are right...E spurrier's system was so bad it made everyone look bad...only laverneus shined to me....I would send Gardner down...I'm ok with Darnarien being number 2 that''ll give Taylor a shot...hopefully he can stay healthy....I like this kid....
As well Ramsey might not be the man...Joe scould be sending a message to danny saying that this is his team now...remember Danny picked Ramsey not Spurrier...when spurrier came, ramsey had already been scouted by danny...so danny said after spurreir signed the contract, danny sadi.."oh by the way, this is your quarterback..." Joe just may sit ramsey down for a while...Cause if brunell comes in, he could definately compete for the spot and probably win....on experience alone....

we'd be trading proven for unproven, (although rod has been inconsistent, he did have a 70 catch, 1,000 yard season) but i wouldnt mind that deal. my whole thing with this brunell situation is how will this immediately affect Ramsey?

Whether it is for the second round pick or just for Gardner, I think Ramsey will be shopped around if Brunell arrives. You just don't send a high 2nd round pick, or a starter, for that matter, for a QB to sit on the bench.
It makes more sense that they will be willing to part with the 2nd pick if they plan on shopping Ramsey because they would be able to regain some pick for him. Probably a 2nd as well.
