First off, let me say I wasn't that big a fan of Tommie Harris at first, but I now think we have to take this guy. On OU's website under his profile you can download a highlight video. I know everyone looks good in a highlight, but this guy looked awesome. He never quits playing and more over he is fast as hell. On one play he gets deep in the backfield rushing the QB then turns upfield after the pass and actually nails the WR from behind. I hear he runs a 4.67 forty time at 290lbs. If that is the case the Skins could play him at DE and he would be a very similar prospect to Peppers who went #2 overall. (A little slower but bigger and stronger).
If Roethlisberger is still there at #5 the Skins should probably trade down (with Pitt for their 1st and 2nd?) but Harris wouldn't be a bad pick.
I know Taylor is off the charts and I would love that pick but I think Arizona or NY might take him. As for running back, there are so many good ones in the later rounds and free agency. With a good disruptive DT or DE, both our LB corp and secondary would be much improved and would likely produce a ton more big plays.

If we traded down and Udeze was off the board, than ya, I would take a chance on Harris projecting to DE (if we were really desparate for a DE, that is).

I voted no as a DE. The guy is a DT and should remain there. He may not be the heaviest guy but he is strong enough to hold his ground and be a disruptive force. I would definitely consider him at 5 ESPECIALLY if Udeze is off the board.

I just don't know. I saw a highlight package on ESPN about a month ago and it was impressive. His acceleration was pretty nice. But I am worried that he didn't dominate statistically in college.
So i'm torn. I wouldn't mind having him and trying him either at end or Dt.

There are a lot of VERY good NFL players that didn't dominate in College though. Harris drew constant double teams in college, I think he has tremendous potential but I would just leave him at DT.

I would love to have Harris just not at the number 5 pick. If we traded down or got another pick for Champ the yes definatly

Forget Harris guys, what about Randy Starks, no one talks about him and i dont know why. I think that Harris MAY be a little bit better now but I think Randy Starks has tremendous potential and more upside then any DL in the Draft. I think he is in the Kris Jenkins mold and like Jenkins he is a local product also (UMD. cmon what is not to like about that?). Granted he is not at Jenkins level yet but I think within a couple years he probally will be with the right coaching and Gibbs is a hell of a coach and teacher. So tell me why not take someone with the potential to be a Jenkins like player over Harris in the Draft? The Skins should take Starks over Harris.

I like Starks alot but like Jenkins he is going to need a few years of coaching. He plays to high and will not overpower lineman in the NFL like he did in the acc.

Aren't we looking for a d-Lineman that can make an immediate impact? You say yourself that Starks will need a couple years of coaching to develop. While that's not always a bad thing, it is not what we need this year.

Ugh, again with the win now mentality. I say go for Starks if we need a DT. Yeah, he'll need a couple years, but the whole team does.
As for Harris, well, just by his numbers I think he'd be a better DE than DT, especially if we could pick up a guy like Ted Washington to stuff the middle.

Yea thats what im talking about Joe, TOO much of a win now mentality, while Starks is not a star yet he will be a pretty good DT for a couple of years until he develops with more coaching. Look we are not going to win a superbowl next year (I think we will make playoffs though) but I think with the right influx of rookies this year we have a chance at the SuperBowl in 2005 or 2006. Starks will wind up being the better player than Harris

I would love to have Starks but we need a DT or two that can play now because Bernard Holsey and lionel Daulton are not it

This isn't my idea but I read on some site that he is playing the wrong postion and that he would dominate at DE. The site said that he has great hands (some of the best hands this scout had ever seen) but that he is not quite strong enough to hold his ground against some of the bigger guards. This guy said move him over one spot and watch him take over games. Compared him to Micheal Strahan. WOW

I think he would make a great DE in a 3-4 but not in the 4-3 which most teams still run (though the 3-4 is getting ever more popular). That being said, I think it will be up to the scheme of the team drafting him to say where he will see more time.

Tommie harris IMO could be solid... if i had a number ten pick i would definitely pick him. Its hard to find a solid defensive tackles these days
