Note: The Redskins are interested in Jim Kleinsasser, an unrestricted free agent, considered one of the best blocking tight ends in the NFL. Last season, Kleinsasser earned about $3 million, and the Minnesota Vikings say they can no longer afford him.

Sounds good if he comes for a reasonable price.

Let's see here

1. He made $3 million last year,
2. The Vikings can't afford him,
3. He's a blocking TE.

Hmmm a reasonable price would be league minimum IMO and this guy ain't coming for cheap.

If the league minimum was all he wanted to get paid, he would still be a Viking...

He won't come cheap...that's for sure.

He'd be a great signing if we could get him. He can play fullback or TE and can block and catch the ball. He'd be a MAJOR upgrade over what we have had the last few years.

Definitely an upgrade, but if the Vikings can't afford him, can we?

I should have posted this weeks ago when I heard Kleinsasser was going to be a free agent. He is the perfect tight end for Joe Gibbs. A huge, excellent blocking tight end who can play H-back. He has good hands, too. This is the kind of tight end Joe Gibbs likes, not Kellen Winslow

Sure if they know a double digit sack guy who'll play for a mil a year.

The Joe Gibbs staple: top shelf OL talent who were big and physical. QBs, RBs, WRs, and DEF players changed but the one constant was dominating O-Line play. Kleinsasser is a monster (6'2, 275) who destroys linebackers and is physical enough to take on D-Linemen. D-Line needs to be addressed, but a couple of moves on the offense, like adding Kleinsasser and, if possible, drafting a young stud Center (Jake Grove?) would make them dominating up front-- Hog-esque.

The TE/H-back position has greater importance in Gibbs' scheme than in the Vikings' offense. Therefore it makes sense to spend a little more on a TE. Especially one of this caliber.

Kleinsasser is the prototype for a Gibbs TE. If the Skins bring him in, it would be one of the biggest upgrades of the offseason for any team. From Flem to Kleinsasser? That is a huge increase in ability at the TE position.

He's 26, lists him at 6'3 and 274. This guy is a serious blocker. We definetely could use him. He could be like a Donnie Warren type TE for us, only thing is Donnie didn't cost $3 mil+ a year.

I was wrong he actually just turned 27.

I think that we would be much better off with him. He is very good all around TE.

I agree this would be a good pikup if he is not too expensive

didnt this guy play fullback a couple of years back too?

HollywoodKolt

Yes he did Goldeneye.

I like Kliensasser and think he would be a good fit for Gibbs. The money would be a big issue though. I could definitally see Kliensasser going to Arizona too. Denny Green loved the guy when he coached in Minnesota, I believe he made a comment along the lines of Kliensasser being the best blocking TE in the league in a few years.

He might come to Washington for the same price or less just so he could play for Gibbs. I think Gibbs is going to bring in some good talent because players want to play for a legend like Gibbs.

crazy.

Every dollar that we don't play out to address our D-line is going to come back to haunt us. Klien was a franchised TE for Minn, he's not going to come cheap.

Find a vet or a rookie who can block, save about 3 million a year.

i hope he does not come here. we need all the cap space we can salvage!

i agree that he would be avery good signing for us but i think the DL should be addressed first as most of you have said. i wonder how much $$$$ he is looking for.

He's a better FB than TE. The guys a sledghammer.

Another guy I think we all need to keep an eye on is Mark Bruener of the Steelers. He's expected to be released and is considered one of the best blocking TEs in the league. And I think we could get him cheap.

TexSkin --- you don't like to spend money, do you? :D Everyone's a good pickup as long as he doesn't cost much money.....By the way, I love your little dancing thing a m'jig....kind of looks like Bart Simpson after spending too much time at his Dad's workplace!

Kleinsasser won't cost all that much when you spread the 3-4 million signing bonus over 4-6 years.

We aren't going to be signing any free agents for the D-line unless we can unload Champ. If Champ and Bruce go, then there will be plenty of cash for improvements to the D-line; whether in free agency or the draft.

TE is a clear need for this team....especially in a Joe Gibbs offense.

I do not know if we could afford him under the cap, but he would quickly become a fan favorite!

Another downside besides the amount of money he would cost is his agent is Sexton.

LOL I ntoiced myself saying that as well. I felt the same way about Brunell. I just feel if we are gonna spend the big buks it better be on an impact player in an area of dire need. D-line anyone? :D
