Sat, 21 Feb 2004 10:22:33 -0800

Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs was clear to point out Saturday, Feb. 21, that even if the Redskins finalize a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars and land QB Mark Brunell, that does not mean that Brunell will be the team's starting quarterback and it will be an open competition that could come away with Patrick Ramsey as the team's starter. Gibbs still believes Ramsey has a bright future with the Redskins and said he couldn't see any hypothetical situations that involves Ramsey being traded to another team.

good info 3Card. you must have fun digging up stuff because you are pretty good at getting the new scoop.....

nice to hear from the coach on all this non-sense. ive said before that even if brunell comes here, there is no guarantee that he will be starting. i could see ram beating him out for the job no matter how much he signed for. gibbs puts the best players on the field. Period.

Hey, thanks for the info, 3Card. I like the stuff about the QB competition. As for Betts, personally I thought Morton or Candidate would make a better third-down back (preferably Morton, since we could then cut Candidate). But, hey, I'll trust Gibbs on this one.

Coach sees Betts as a 3rd down back. That leads me to believe that he wants to bring in somebody through the draft/free-agent to be the starter

I also want to extend a welcome to you Sus, hope you make this your home for Redskins information and enjoyment. Welcome to hR.

Does not sound to encouraging for Betts ( being refered to as a great 3rd down back) I say we will see A.Smith here before camp

I noticed those news strips on KFFL today also. They also like to give info on which players have interviewed with which teams. I haven't seen any reports on KFFL concerning who the Redskins have interviewed. Does anyone know of who the Skins have been talking to?

Dillon would be great but i really want Staley. Dillon is more a more proven back but after seeing what Duce did last year how can you not love that guy.

Please. Once Gibbs sees Betts in person and sees how slow he is to the hole, along with his inability to break tackles..he will be a special teams player at best.
