View Full Version : Enough about 1st round, what about the 2nd?

We all have different ideas for the 1st round:
-Sean Taylor
-Kellen Winslow
-Kenechi Udeze
-Tommie Harris
but what about the 2nd one? There may be a lot of interesting players:
-Jake Grove
-Ben Troupe
-Ben Watson
-1 of the 4 interesting RB's
-etc....
What do you think????

We don't need nobody but a RB...or a DL....no centers ...mybe a TE...but if we don't get one in FA definatley one in the draft....

Can't really say because it all depends on the first round pick. If we don't go with a DL with the first pick then we definitely needs to go for that. If we grab Udeze with the first pick then we can go for the other positions.

I cannot trust in Larry Moore taking the job once held by Jeff Bostic, so I think we need a center, and Jake Grove is a great nasty one.
We need a blocking TE (no, no Kellen Winslow), and maybe one of the Bens could be good options.
If one of the great RB's is still available for our 2nd round, let's get him! NO questions!
I hope the DL issues will be solved via FA, so we don't have that problem in the 2nd round, but maybe Jason Babin could be an option.

This is all based on us drafting Taylor and if Champ leaves, we get a D- Lineman with that 2nd 1st round pick. I think if Groves is still there at pick #41, I say we take him. Any back looks good behind a good offensive line. But it takes a really good back to look good behind a bad offensive line.

D-line. No question. If we don't address in the first, we have to in the second.
Maybe if Greg Jones is available, but I think we should go D-line.

This probably depends even more on free agency than our first-rounder. If no RB, then Greg Jones. If no Kleinsasser, then one of the Bens. If no Rod Coleman/Robaire Smith/Warren Sapp, etc, then a DT.

Y do we need a back if we got Portis now. Betts can be a great back-up back like 2 years ago.

Talking about any pick other than the 1st or 7th rounds it pointless right now, as Snyder seems intent to ship off that #2 to Denver for a deal that doesn't require him to do so. Most folks think that the Broncos are getting the better deal straight-up. At least get their 3rd round pick back, Dan!
Anyway, in a perfect world we'll still be picking 41st. If Grove is still there, grab 'em ... but don't hold your breath. Greg Jones will probably be there, but I think he's a 2 down back at best. If that's your bag, grab 'em.
Personally, I'm hoping Darnell Dockett slips. More than likely, Marcus Tubbs and Marquise Hill will be there too. It would really be hard to pass up any of those 3.

I don't know about Betts. I thought it was a reach to pick him where they did 2 years ago. He would've been there in the 3rd, maybe even the 4th. IMO, Betts hasn't shown enough to justify the pick at all.
BTW, if I'm not mistaken, Portis was selected 2 picks or so before Betts. I have a feeling that Dan and Vinny were sitting in the War Room just drooling at the prospect of having Portis fall to them. Alas, Denver couldn't let him go by.
Danny should have traded away a 5th round pick to move up those 2 or so spots then -- we wouldn't have to give Denver a #2 now.

Who, of those 3 guys, is the best pass rusher?

Dockett and Tubbs are DTs, while Hill is a DE. I think the consensus is that Hill has the speed and athletic ability to be a very good edge rusher, but he's still raw with his technique and would have benefitted from another year at LSU.
Dockett and Tubbs could provide the collapse-the-pocket push up the middle as both are big and strong. I think Dockett played a 1 gap system at Florida State with Tubbs played a 2 gap at Texas. So each might have to learn about the other system, base on what Gregg Williams wants to play. That might be the factor which Williams uses when looking at the two of them.

This thread is so dead since the Portis trade. I don't like giving the 2nd rounder, but CP will make my day!
