I HAVE NO IDEA!!!
I heard Mel saying it was crazy! He also pointed out how much it's taken to finally find our running back since we let Stephen walk! If only we didn't let him go! We spent a 2nd round pick on Betts, a 4th on Trung plus Champ and a 2nd rounder. So letting Stephen go cost us 2 2nd round picks, a 4th round pick and Champ Bailey!!!!!!!! I like Portis better but come on! Who is making these moves anyway? Oh yeah...Vinny, who just got a 3 year extension.:banghead:

Because we overpay for everything.

i think the broncos would have done it player for player but snyder probaly got excited and threw in a pick....either way i love it. Portis is worth bailey and a 2nd round pick.

We're overpaying plain and simple.
One of the Denver newspapers did a pol on the proposed trade and sixtynine percent of the respondents were in favor of the trade.
The only way I would feel good about this, is if the pol results were the otherway around.

Portis is a big Name. The Broncos know how much Danny/Vinny love big names so, they figured heck we might as well see what else we can get. I guarantee you they wouldn't even have attempted such a ludicrous trade with any other team in the nfl.

Because Denver was smart enough to ask for it and we were desperate enough to agree to it. Honestly I too wish I Knew.

The reason we have to give up the 2nd rounder is because every team in the league knows we arent going to keep Champ...They also know we want him gone before free-agency starts so we have more room under the cap...
So it comes down to trading him for a 1st and a fring player or a group of players soon to be Free agents themselves or put or 2nd rounder in the mix and get a STAR PLAYER for our STAR PLAYER..
I wish we could keep our 2nd round pick and hold out hope that its our 2nd next year...that said...I believe this is the best deal we could make and meet the teams goals in free agency.

It's well worth it and you'll see that when Portis breaks off a couple of 60 yd touchdowns next year. We got one of the best players in the NFL at the age of 22.

Because Snyder likes to give lovely parting gifts and Snyder still feels bad about the whipping we put on the Broncos in the SB.

But will it be worth it when the other team rips one right back because we didn't have a second rounder to help fix our defense.

Who knows at this points its all a crap shoot. The Broncos could use the pick and get the next Walter Payton or use it and get the next Ladell Betts. The odds are they will get another Betts. :)

Gibbs wanted Portis and that deal was a heck of a lot more attractive than what Detroit or NY were offering. That's the bottom line. I highly doubt Danny just threw it on the table. Denver was probably so adamant about wanting the 2nd round pick, the Skins had no better option. Detroit said they were not willing to give up the #6 pick and the Jet's #1 and Jordan was simply not as good a trade in Gibbs mind. Denver called our bluff and we had nothing better to bluff back at. Now if Detroit had offered their #6 pick and # 2, for example, Denver might have been willing to to a straight trade. But Denver knew we had nothing better to negotiate with.
We'll all forget about this after Portis runs for 1,800 yards his first season as a Skin.

This is just my observation and Opinion only .........
Champ wanted out of DC we all know this , and Champ is 25 ...
Alot of teams wont give you to much for him in this time , they will either wait untill End of trading deadline or Next year .....
Denver has Portis , we had 2 ways to go .......
1. Keep Portis and try for Ty Law or Madison , Springs ...
2. Make a Deal with the Redskins for the Best CB .... and a 2 nd Rounder ........
Denver Knew you guys wouldnt have got a better offer , and to be Honest , While the Draft pick hurts , Snyder and Gibbs knew this was the best offer he would get for Champ ........
So did the Skins over pay ? Depends on how you look at it .....
you could have traded for 3 Crap players from the Jets , or Keep Champ for 1 more year then he walks and you get Nothing .......
or Accept Denvers offer of a Superstar Running back at the age of 22 and Already in the NFL record Books ........

LOL . Like I say expect about 1485 yards to 1550 From Portis this Year , he has to learn the system , Blocks , Verbage ....
As for Portis , I havent beefed him up , I have only stated what he has done , If I have 1 concern about Portis is he will showboat .... The Boy isnt shy , In fact his Rookie Year in Denver 1 st training camp , He told our other Backs , that they would be excellent Running Backs in the Canadian football league ......
your Locker room must have a sence of Humor ....... :D
