View Full Version : Trade Down???? NO WAY

we have so much cap room! We can draft at least 4 defensive studs in free agency: corner back, Kearse possibly, a really fat d lineman, and a young, agile linebacker.
Then we can draft Taylor, possibly the best safety ever, who Greg Williams would covet, and have a Good defense for once. If we still seem to be weak defensively, I say we trade Gardner for a pick. Then we could start the devoliping Mccants who is a true redskin. So why would we need to trade down thenn?????
Our d line would be something like:
Kearse or Wistrom if Kearse is too expensive,
Washington or Griffen (both solid though Washington is old)
A drafted d lineman with the pick we get for gardner
And wynn who could improve greatly with the other studs helping out
linebackers: LAvaar, Trotter, Fast, young Armstead replacement
Safeties: Ohalete and Sean Taylor
cornerbacks: Smoot and Shawn Springs
That is a great defense right there. There are no weaknesses. So why would we need to trade down?? That's insane when we have someone as expendable as gardner. Gibbs won't want all these Wide receivers anyways. Ya'll aren't thinking this through

The only knock is that it's unrealistic. Yes you can hope and pray that you get every player, hell you just might, but it cannot fit under the cap; that's why the cap was brought along in the first place, so the Yankees cannot exist in football.

I really hope we can get our holes filled via FA and get the most talented player in this year's draft. Sean Taylor. This one is a future Ronnie Lott, hopefully Gibbs will see it.

If only we could keep the 2nd rounder from the Denver trade. That would be great.

Gibbs is going to have to trade down. I dont see us getting all the players in FA that we need. March 3rd will be interesting though.

Lets take madieu Williams from Maryland in like the 4th. Do we have a 4th???

Yep that 2nd rounder is really forcing us to trade down

if this taylor is as slick as everyone is saying i think you take him... a hard-hitting safety with cover over top can vastly improve average corners... others have been saying this as well... look at dallas D and carolina D... draft taylor, get one of the CBs... the cheaper end... a reasonable DT... and id say use who we have a backer... pierce right? see how that pans out... seems reasonable to me... but im not sure about the price tags, none of us are yet.

Yeah, we don't have a 4th.

If we get all those FAs we will be in cap hell soon!!
which we might be in anyhow!!!
I want Taylor badly but I also want the Redskins to be good every year not 1 or 2 years then suck for 3 or 4

I would really want to get Taylor pretty bad also, but I think with trading the 41st pick to Denver we can't afford to get just 1 player in the first 4 rounds of the draft. Plus come draft day and ifTaylor, maybe M. Williams and Winslow are still on the board at 5 we might be able to get some good deals then if the trade doesn't occur before then.

I love Taylor but i'm 50/50 on this one. I don't want to have the cap kill us in a few years. Apparently you have to build throught he draft to avoid getting killed by the cap and we didn't really have a draft last year.
If we take Taylor, i'll be estatic.
If we trade down I'm going to be glued to the TV hoping we don't blow the picks.

Let's cut Larry Moore, trade Ohalete, keep that 2nd rounder (please!), draft Sean Taylor, Jake Grove and somebody else with the draft pick from Ohalete. Let's stay with Andre Lott backing the next Ronnie Lott.

While we all like Taylor lets get serious, how can we have a good defense with such a *edit* dline...we need to build it from draft, while we can still get wistrom or kearse, plugging the Dline with fat old lineman is what has gotten us in trouble already (Smith, Upshaw, rest of the pitiful fat line)...with a good DL, we can make Ohalete and Bowen look like Taylor
Admin edit: Keep it clean please!

Trade down and take Starks or Udeze, Taylor will be like champ in five years, a primadonna safety who is gonna demand a ton of money, use the pick wise, trade down, build with some young talent
We do need young help, fa can't solve everything. We should know that.

How can you call a guy that hasn't even been drafted yet the best safety ever? With all due respect, I'm sure he has a chance to be a good player but I wanna see him play a down before declaring him the best ever.

We've got to trade down! We need 4 DL. 1 LB, 1 OG, 2 CBs, 1 TE and a P. You can't afford all of these via FA. So, you better trade down and hope you can plug as many holes as possible.

Why do we have this poll in two different forums? A bit redundant to say the least.

Hearing on Sports Radio in Tampa that Bucs may trade up if WR Mike Williams is still on the board at the 5 spot. We would get their #1 (pick #15) and #3 (pick #80).

Too bad Mike Ditka isn't still around. We could get his entire draft plus a 1st rounder next year for our #5 pick ;)

We need a center and depth @ LB, DL, & OL. I'm not as opposed to the idea as I once was but still we have to fill the holes w/ solid players and stop trying to hit a homerun w/ every position in football. I for one could go either way w/o shedding a tear I just think it's smarter business spreading the wealth.

Voted to trade down but I will also be happy either way. Spread the wealth!

do any of you think we could draft Taylor and convert him into a LB?

It all starts with the D line. Everyone saw how effective Champ was without one last year.

It has been done before. Adam A. from the Rams and I'm not sure but I think B. Urlacher was a safety in school. I suppose a great athlete could play almost any position he wants.

i think we need to go get TAylor because he will make the other DB better. I think we can get a lot in FA. People always say we will be in cap hell but every time the FO has spent money the cap has work out rersoably well. I do not think that we need to replace the entire dline. If we get one DT(C. Griffin, Robare Smith, or rod colman) and one rushing d end(Winstrom, kearse, berry) the dline will be vastly improved. I tink many of the player that we had last year can be used and can play better under better coaching. I coach last year has to take some of the blame.

i dont see that happening, and i dont think we have all the cap room that you think we do. plus, if we are giving up an arm and a leg plus a draft pick for portis, we might as well use up some cap to re-sign him to a new deal.

Anyone who watches football at all will covet Sean Taylor... so that question really isnt legit. The biggest hurdle is whether to take him or trade... and I have to pick trading down to fill holes. If dont properly (like with 1 minute left) then we could quite possibly secure a mid first and a 2nd for the pick. That would be better for us in the end.

We need Taylor so bad i will be happy with the Draft if we pick him up.
PS i can hardly wait for madden 2005

Ummm I say we trade portis after we get him, hoping that we hold the the brocos out for just the champ for portis straight up deal. Then we can finally build through the draft while getting sean taylor. we would get sean taylor, greg jones DT with the first, and DT in the second.
