View Full Version : Media Abuse against Redskins

I honestly have questioned some of the offseason moves, but the overall overwhelming negative comments by Fox Sports, CBS Sportsline, CNNSI, and ESPN are getting a little ridiculous. You'd think Snyder was actually hurting these reporter's family members or something.
However anyone feels, it's Snyder's money. My thought is that for this year they are getting the team all the veterans they can. The ones that contribute the most will be kept somehow at the 2-3 year cap crisis that keeps being brought up. The others will be let go. Meanwhile, over the next 2 years, the draft picks will largely be kept in anticipation of this. The difference with this team now (as compared to last year) is that the 'Skins now have a head coach who can meld talented new players quickly into a cohesive, disciplined unit.
Snyder's judgement is often questionable, but come on! Fonzarelli over at ESPN has been merciless. During his last chat, he was questioned about his obvious bias by a Virginia fan and he more or less did not answer his question.

Shut 'em up by winning. With all due respect, I'm a little tired of hearing Redskins fans complain about media abuse of the Redskins. Every year under Snyder since 2000 [he owned the team in 1999, but had no role in personnel management] the team has made a splash in the offseason and a thud during the regular season. [And a big fat zero in the postseason.] Until that changes, people in the media are going to knock the Redskins.
Get used to it, get over it, whatever it takes. Instead of demanding that the media changes it tune, how about we demand that the Redskins change their losing ways? Hiring Joe Gibbs back might have been enough to enchant people like us, but the media won't let up until they see a win or two in January.
So let's stop whining and hope the Redskins give it to them. This is what happens in sports. The media always piles on the losers. Especially losers who are always doing something to attract attention. Teams that try mightily to win, but can't seem to figure out how to do it always receive a special measure of contempt from the media and fans of other franchises. If it wasn't the Redskins it would be someone else.
There is only one way to end it: Stop losing and start winning.
I'm not annoyed with the media for doubting the Redskins will win. I'm annoyed with the Redskins for giving the media reason to doubt.

yeah even if they win, Pastabelli and his ilk will say the Skins just bought those wins. The skins will have to be the Raiders of old: dont care what you think, get out of our way. So I say Feck'em, let them rot

Right! ... except for one thing ... there will be no end of it
... you could have Gibbs repeat his past success and the Skins will still be undervalued, overlooked, considered overachievers, Snyder will still be bad for the game/team/business/etc.
Even during Gibbs first run ... Redskins garnered so little respect it sent a clear message ... ain't never gonna be nothin but dis'ed

Well the media will never change - they have and will always report more negative than positive things.
Heck, that's the reason why I never chose broadcasting as a career.....because I'm so positive that its sickening :Fruit: and well, no one would hire me....

Points taken. Nobody's whining here, pal. Just tired of one-sided journalism. My point is I think the 'Skins have a better plan this year then ususal, and its not even being explored.

I'm glad the media is talking about us, I live in PA and hear 24/7 about the Iggles. Let them talk until we play to January. All these half-a$$ed announcers will be eating they're words come December. When we start winning and get in the playoffs I will send Len Pastawhatever a copy of his own document and ask him if he wants to revise his idiotic, ignorant comments. They'll get theirs.

I'm with Spence - The SKins brought it on themselves. Every year I catch myself yelling about the media and telling them to back off - but when the year is over - If you sit back and think how much $ was spent and all the off season hype - the skins brought it on themselves. But this time is different. This is Joe Gibbs. We just have to wait. We will see - The media destroyed the skins in the past due to performance and horrible coaching moves - but now, they have to RESPECT Joe Gibbs - let them say what they want - deep down inside - they feel a wave coming. The wave of a winning season is on the horizon.

I'm with the media. Continuety can be more important then talent if you wanna win a suoerbowl. Replacing the roster every year will get you nowhere. If we get to the playoffs this year and keep the core of younger players, while adding to them through the draft and a good fa signing here and there I'll be wrong, but this has gotta be the last year we go on a shopping spree.

Dan Snyder deserves all his critics.. No matter how many times his approach has failed in the past he continues to try harder and harder.
Although the media is down on the Skins now. They are beginning to change their tune. As soon as we start to win the song will be "If at first you don't succeed, try try again". They will eat this "Joe Gibbs comes back to rescue Dan Snyder " story all up. We will have the top announcers, no more Duke flunkies like Baldinger. Happy days are here again or I am I just dreaming!

Every year during the preseason when the "experts" started making their predictions about who would be in the playoffs and eventually go to the Superbowl, nobody ever mentioned Joe Gibbs and the Redskins with the exception of one announcer and that was Madden who would remind the other "experts" not to forget about Gibbs and the 'skins over in the NFC East. Always liked Madden after he did that. But Brokenstriker is right, we never got any respect the first time around, don't see why this time should be any different. We'll do our talking on the field, just like we did before.

All you need to know about Pastabelly is this: When Joe Gibbs came back, he wrote a nasty, ultra-negative article about how he would be ruining his legacy, etc. Two weeks later Jabba the Hut picked the Skins as one of the four or five teams that had a good chance of a Carolina-style turnaround -- from worst to first. If the Skins succeed, he'll say he predicted it, if they fail, he'll say he predicted it. Also, a lot of these guys have Chris Collinsworthitis -- trying to make comments that are somewhat outlandish and over the top, in order to make a name for themselves.

Yea...your right they do they change their mind all the time for example take weathermen (their part of the media), if they say its going to rain all day. Does it? Not all the time it ends up being sunny and they say "Wow what a nice day it turned out being" or those long range forcasts on Monday, Friday looks rainy and cold. But on Tuesday, Friday is warm and sunny. They should just learn you can't predict what will happen too early becasue no one can be right all the time and they end up looking stupid at the end.

Except, the first time around, we were the overachievers that nobody respected -- the Florida Marlins of the NFL. THis time around? We're the New York Yankees, the team everybody wants to see lose. How'n the hell did that happen? I thought the Cowboys would hold that title forever!

Some people for whatever reason have the ability to make a target out of themselves without even trying. The Danny is one of those people. Actually I think he goes out of his way sometimes to intentionally make a target out of himself. So, because Danny chooses to go against the grain by signing free agents at outragious prices and forgo the draft he draws fire. If he hires and fires coaches every other year or sooner because his teams not winning, he draws fire, he brings back a hall of fame coach he draws fire, face it folks, the skins and Danny are going to be the whipping boys of the press until we either win it all or go away, and if we win it all then we'll be labeled as overachievers (again).

I am new here and just wanted to say what's up. This is a great site. Normally i would agree that snyder spends money stupidly but this time i have to go with Joe Gibbs. He knows what he's doing and all the people who are saying he has been away too long don't really know him at all. He would never jump into anything without being 100% prepared. And as for everybody saying the skins bought a super bowl (when that happens :) ) are going to be right. In this day of free agency you almost have to buy it. There are no more dynasties, most teams only stay together for 3-5 years anymore.

Even with Gibbs and all the good moves we have made,I will wait to see us 13-3 or 12-4 and then say we have done something. I think the chances are much higher this year but I have tried not to get excited with this team as it has been one let down after another

I must say it has been very tuff been a Skins fan these past few seasons.........As far as the media goes-they can all SHUT UP!!! I am Redskins Fan-pure & simple.........Media rants and other silly "predictions" won't change that...............Only thing that MIGHT change the Media's opinon of the REDSKINS is WINNING.........Now I dont live on the East Coast so I don't hear nearly as much as some of you do about the SKINS. Personally since I found this site I hear more about the SKINS than I ever have. Hell-I can barely go 2 days without checking this site (especially since the return of Joe Gibbs).............Overall I am very confident that the SKINS will have a very good season, I would also like to state for the record that I believe that Danny is taking some cues from Gibbs on how to manage and maintain the team (pursue low-end good quality players thru FA-and add to the core of your team using the draft)..........
Anyways-I don't hate Synder-but yeah he occassionally ticks me off-and I am pretty impressed with the way the team is handling things thus far..........GO REDSKINS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree, win and they will shut up. Snyder deserves to get ripped, his way of doing things has produced at best an 8-8 record so he deserves it. Most of these TV guys don't know much and they just follow the leader, if they were more observant they would notice that he is bringing in younger players now instead of over the hill players. Danny is learning but it is going to take some winning to get the media off his ass, like Spence said.
