Although, I'm sure I should pick my husband Rusty Tillman (joke to Joe...:p )
I remember doing the numbers last year on this and there really is no comparing to Chris Hanburger.
Also, I am old enough to remember seeing him play. I loved him even then! 9 time Pro Bowler, 'nuff said!
But let me just say...we have had a lot of great LB in our organization!!!

Gotta go with Chris Hanburger.
Hopefully LaVar will exceed his stats and presence with time.
Monte is a solid second.

Hanburger gets this hands down.

WHAT......... Where the HELL is Mike Curtis! ........... just kidding although he was an awesome LB.
No doubt Chris will win this hands down and probably should but I said Monte Coleman simple cause he did it all and was with out a doubt was the best athelete we ever had at LB. Was great at ST (like Tilman) too.

I voted for Hanburger. It was a shame the way the Redskins let him go :(
BTW, where's Neil Oklewicz? He was probably the most underrated lb ever!
PainterBoy
03-08-2004, 07:19 PM
Neil was a middle LB which was voted on in the last vote. This is mainly for outside LB.
BTW, I can't believe Lavar has gotten this many votes and for that matter any of the other LBs. Hanburger dominates any of these LBs! He's one of the greatest of all-times in the NFL, forget just the Redskins.

I hear ya PB. Hanburger was a great LB, but I have a soft spot for Wilbur Marshall....That year he led the team in Tackles, Sacks and INT's was just phenomenal.

I agree... Their may have been better skins players over the long haul but Marshall's 91 season was the best season in skins history at any position.

Keino my friend we always think a like. Wilbur's season was phenomenal but under the logic of a one sensational season, then Rypien's 91 season would make him the best Redskin QB ever - I don't think we want to say that now.
The better question would have been who is the second greatest Redskin Lb ever! I might have given Wilbur that vote.

I can't argue with Hanburger one bit. In fact I was guilty in this vote of what I said there was too much of in previous polls....Sentimental Voting.
Here's the thing for me. Wilbur's contemporaries were guys like LT (The greatest NFL Linebacker ever), Derrick Thomas and Singeltary. Having watched both players (Though I admit Hanburger I saw later in his career and we just weren't a very good team them), I think Wilbur was more skilled. He excelled in all 3 areas of being a LB while Hanburger was not a 3 down LB.
BTW - Was Rypien's phenomenal performance in 91 the best in team history Stats-wise?
I never felt that Marshall was given his Just Do and the way the NFL forced us to trade him left a Bad bad bad taste in my mouth.

Lavar is hands down the most talented, smartest....not even close. Thiugh he is still learning the game. He will be one of the best. And not to mention, he knock Troy out of the NFL. Gotta him him props for that.

I felt compelled to vote for Harvey and Marshall because I loved them both so much, but went with Monte because of his long sustained level of hard play and the success his teams had.

I have to admit that I am mildly surprised that Lavar is as close as he is to Hanburger in this voting.

Hanburger is the ONLY answer. Anyone naming someone else is simply too young to remember this outstanding linebacker....one of the best NFL linebackers of all time. There really should be no question on this one.....

Hanburger was probably the best but I gotta give love to my man Monte. He played so hard every down and gave it his all every Sunday. He was one of those players that every coach would love to have.
PainterBoy

Monte really wasn't that great a LB in my opinion. Yes he had longevity but he wasn't any better than Neil O, Rich Kauffman, etc when he played. Trying hard and being the best are completely different.
This vote should be one of the most lop-sided of all of them and yet Lavar who has yet to show any real consistency is second in voting. Man I can't get over this - as Keino said way too much heart or favorite player is going into this vote not whose the greatest LB the Redskins ever had.
I'm not trying to bust on anyone's vote here I'm just stating that Hanburger was that much better than anyone else on that list year-end and year-out.

I agree PB. There are way too many Lavar votes for my personal taste. I mean usually when you are talking about the Greatest, they have achieved something that is tangible. 2 Probowls and future projections just do not cut it for me.
