Default Check Ancestors' Military Records for Free

Ancestry.com is offering a free chance to look up military records from now until June 6th.

http://www.ancestry.com/

When you get to the site, just click the militaristic-looking graphic on the right.

It's pretty neat. Just plug-in the name of your ancestor and info of varying degrees pops up (ideally). Note that there may be entries on your ancestor or friend on more than one site. Pretty rudimentary, but fascinating just the same.

My not often talked about third cousin, Private Eddie Slovik didn't do well in the free search.

That's really neat that you can trace your family so far back. Are you in the DAR?

I have never registered, but I do have at least 3 confirmed ancestors listed in the DAR. I have recorded history back as far as 1740 on my Dad's line.
