The mystery of the "un-tucked" feather
From the 1982 NFC Divisional Playoff, I give you Joe Washington wearing the "un-tucked" or standard Redskins helmet. I'm almost feeling like calling up Doc Walker to ask what the deal was with that!?

I thought we already settled this. Something about a lost helmet and no other helmets of that logo?
I personally never liked the 'tucked' feather anyway, even though it signifies our first Super Bowl season.

yea, it has been unusually longer then others i think. Maybe its cause we haven't gone crazy and signed every high profile guy out there. (but wouldn't signing those big league guys make the offseason longer cause we want to see them?) or maybe its cause we are going through the offseason now, and next year i will say that that is the longest offseason to date.
the simple fact that i am even discussing why i feel its a long offseason makes me think it has been a long offseason....haha

I'm not totally sure why, but JW used that helmet with the "old" feather for the whole season, and he was the only one who did.
I do remember reading somewhere that he had his helmets made specifically for him by someone for some reason, so maybe that was it. Strange that the team had no problems with that.
And yeah. LONG offseason....:-)

i would think it would have been the league that had more of a problem, but perhaps they werent so strict on uniforms back then. I still think its silly players get fined for wearing certain socks(portis, taylor) and im not saying that just because theyre redskins. didnt plummer or one of the broncos a few years ago get fined for wearing or not wearing a commerative sticker on their helmet?(or something along those lines)

in the old days reebok and other apparel makers didnt spend megafortunes developing sports clothing and pay a king's ransom for exposure.. in fact, reebok and nike didnt even exist in the early days..
it was more rawlings , wilson, spaulding and other old line companies.. things have sure changed

plummer was fined every game that year i think for wearing a sticker with #40on his helmet for pat tillman.
the whole NFL did it for one weekend but plummer continued throughout the season. small price to pay for a fallen friend IMO. and at some point i think he and the league came to an agreement that he could do it only a certain way. i dont know what the agreement was and i could just be imagining that too.
