Default Freight Train Derails into Anacostia River

Several freight cars full of coal went into the river. What a mess. I think this may take a while to clean up.

I was about to say the same thing. As I type, the coal is dissolving into some new chemical compound because of mixing with all the other chemicals in there and the rubber suits that the cleanup crews are wearing are starting to get holes from the acidic quality of the water.

I did some research on the Anacostia. During "weather events," the storm drains in the District wash directly into the river. That is gross and very 19th century. The Corps of Engineers or something needs to work on this environmental disaster. I pity the salvage divers who are going to have to work on the rail cars down in that water.

That coal might actually clean that river up, at least the smell.

In highschool my biology teacher took us out in canoes into the middle of that stuf. We actually went right through where it happened. As a part of the class, we measured the visibility in the water and it was absolutely nil. We couldn't see more than a quarter inch past the surface. There was a yellow sheen over the browness of the water and they had many spots where it appeared that some chemicals, something oil like, was bubbling to the surface.

You are right, I really pity those divers.
