Gregg Remembered
Yes. Yes. Yes.
Gregg Williams finally called a defensive game like he would have in '04/'05. He was aggressive as all hell. He blitzed on nearly every down. He sent blitz after blitz after blitz at Grossman and Griese, and the defense finally looked like it did three years ago.
I hope this is a sign of things to come. This is what he was doing when we were all desperate to keep him on the staff at all costs.

I was giggling like a school girl everytime we blitzed!

he better keep doing it because our secondary Suuuuucks. Doughty is horrible, Eubanks and Torrence are so bad it makes me want to die. If Springs or Smoot miss serious time we are in serious trouble.
Better go with the he cant pass if he is on his back attitude.
But y0ou are right. GW called a decent game all around. I don't like that immediately after we go up 2 tds we give up 10 straight points, but we finally brought pressure and dictated terms to an offense instead of vice versa

i think doughty has promise as a Strong safety.. and how scary was that for eubanks to be locked up on hester ?
i think torrence tackles well, so i am not as down on the secondary as some

sorry not with you on Doughty...But I am being consistent, I have never really likd his game. Slow and small is no way to play safety in the NFL.
Eubanks really is disappointing me because I thought he could be a future nickle in the league. Torrence is fast and can tackle, after he lets a guy get a first down.

doughty can tackle, but i agree he looks marginal at best..
torrence is going to get better and he will stick as a nickle at least.... eubanks looked lost or beaten most of the time but maybe his hammy is still not right ??
still hoping westbrook makes a leap in the off season

I think Doughty had a good game tonight and said so in the game thread. I'm not sold that he can't be a starter in this league. He showed me something tonight in a game that asked a lot of our secondary.

i disagree with some of this. Eubanks was horrible, but Doughty is not. i think Doughty is developing nicely for a 2nd year safety out of AA college ball. other than his first start vs dallas he has been solid and he tackles well. Torrence is also another player who was thrust into major action this year and is learning on the fly who i think has played decently for us and is also a good tackler and has the speed to make up for some of his mistakes. we finally have some young cheap depth who are showing they have an upside yet you continue on your vendetta against our late round picks and undrafted players. while doughty and torrence are young and will make some mistakes, its also time to give some praise where its due as far as their progression

the blitz was nice and i like what i saw from the defense today. eubanks on hestr made me nervous. i disagree with you guys doughty is decent, and torrence is a good dime back thrust into the nickel(when smoot was puking blood he was 2nd) now eubanks ehhh idk id like to see what westbrook can do why not cut macklin since hes inactive every game and let him paly a few plays. still wouldnt mind a 3rd rd corner next yr even if springs stays

I don't see why everyone is so down on Doughty. I saw him playing well in the SS role (since his lack of speed precludes success at FS) and he is a sure tackler with moderate coverage abilities. We're too spoilt, expecting every position to have somebody who can cover half the field, light a guy up and take back an INT or fumble for a TD. Doughty is a okay with the upside to be decent. No, he's never going to make the pro-bowl but we don't need a pro-bowler at every position. We need a couple of game-changers and the rest just guys we can rely on to make a tackle and cover a TE. He's cheap cap-wise too.

There's the GW I've been waiting for all year. Let's hope this trend continues and we still need to add another DB to the mix. One with experience. I suspect we'll give a call to Mr. Stoutmire pretty soon to take JC's roster spot if he's put on IR.

he still got kinda passive at the end (okay, he was making them milk the clock down... and landry should have had the game clincher)
but FG's represent decent defense.. and both berrian and hester are scary fast (wouldnt berrian look good in burgundy next year ???)

I wish all of you would get off his back in the first place. He blitzes QB's when he knows they can't hurt us. He isn't gonna blitz Favre, Kitna, Brady. He will blitz Grossman, Clemons, Griese. See a pattern???

Oh, believe me, it hasn't been hard to see a pattern for most of the season when he literally called the same play every snap.
