Default Pash Rush . . . or lack there of . . .

It's clear that the Skins D-Line is not capable of getting much pressure on opposing QB's. Was Marv Lewis right in using Arrington as a third down pass rushing DE? Maybe we should be doing some of this again. Let Mitchel or Pierce or Grant be the coverage LB and have Arrington move to DE and B. Smith at DE, R. Upshaw and R. Wynn as the DT's. The way we try to do it now by blitzing the LB's is opening the middle of the field to short passes like the Patriots used and like the Giants used. Seems like when they blitz there is nobody covering the middle of the field.

What do you guys think? Would this work or is Lavar too conceded to be willing to play DE. Could we use Trotter or Armstead as this type of player?

Maybe we could move to a 3-4 in pass rushing situations. Would that work? Would Lavar be happy this way?

If not, What should we do? Something needs to be done.

No.

Blitz between the tackles more. Lavar needs to use more inside moves from the outside LB position to be more affective but putting him at DE to fend off tackles again just complicates things more.

We need to send different blitzers in. It seems like we always blitz Lavar and occasionally Trotter. We should send in Armstead and the safety's too. Peppi Zellner?!

Because of our current player situation the D is going to have to stay with the gambling style BUT just need to do it more. We only done this for about 35% of our plays and gotten good pressure (didn't say sacks) on the QB. Just keep developing what is working. LA is lining up at times on the line already.

I think we need to start using Upshaw more in place of Bruce Smith. Bruce is still effective when his snaps are limited. If Upshaw can take more snaps on run sitituations then that should help the pass rush with a healthy Smith in on passing downs. I don't like the idea of using Lavar at DE on passing downs. I always thought he does too much for the team on the field to lock him up on a 300+lbs tackle where he's fighting to get free.

Another thing I just thought of . . . Where the hell is Ladairis Jackson? How about Dalton? Why aren't these guys playing? Jackson showed a lot of promise as a pass rusher and Dalton started for a good Denver D-Line the last two years. Whats the deal?

I think they need to stack the Dline towards Bruce. Makes it harder for them to D-Team him.

against the patriots bruce smith was putting pressure on brady but they started to double team him. i think we should blitz more and give ladarious jackson a chance.

I think that Edwards will have a lot to explain if he doesn't get Jackson on the field with everyone screaming about the lack of pressure on the QB. Right now i don't care if Jackson can't tackle any RB outta the backfield if he can get to the QB. (some people say this is his weakness... )

There is no way he can be as ineffective as some of the guys that we have in there. We force the offense in a lot of third and 8 (and further). In such situations we should line up:
Upshaw, Zeller, Wynn, Jackson

If that line can't get pressure on the QB then I give up and blitz like the Eagles do. It's not like we don't have the players at the LB and DB position to not blitz.

I agree about the different blitz schemes ... when was the last time you saw a corner blitz by the Redskins ... I only see those on the highlights for other teams

Ok I used to harp that Bruce sucks (now) ... but thats really not fair ... he's much better than I gave him credit for but ... results is what we need ... and the last time I saw L. Jackson ... he was making some prissy QB say "mommy ..."

for that matter Upshaw gives the odd moment of "hmmm .. I wonder if he can get in the backfield like that more often if he were on the field more often ....."

The corner blitz was tried against the pats in the preseason and that didn't work out too well. I think sending Ohalete or Bowen could work nicely. Bowen is just a playmaker and I'm confident he can make things happen.

We tried it once and it didn't work, so we shelved it?

well... sending champ is probably not the best idea, esp with him being a little banged up. Smoot isn't that big either. So i think we need to send someone with size that will definately bring down the QB.

Edwards has been mad conservative, so i don't see the CB blitz coming soon.

I'd go w/ the safety's and Armstead. Armstead is coming from the weakside for God sakes. Philly gets sacks from every position on the field, we need to work on the same.
