Default Gaither to Skins for pick #37? [Merged]

JLC reports on NFLN:

I wouldn't be against this at all. It would be interesting if this was done before the draft. There would be real speculation on the Redskins pick, especially if Bradford goes to the Rams.

More speculation than rumor, but it would make sense. If they do this deal, they would have to draft Bradford, Clausen or deal down for Snead/Tebow.

So the Ravens have doubts and we would trade a high second+ for him? I don't know about that.

I think the Ravens have Oher who played well at both tackle positions last year. They want to recoup picks after trading for Boldin. They could always draft a RT in the mid rounds.

Except that Gaither has done it in the NFL already.

The guy only gave up a total of 6 pressures in 11 starts at LT last year so he clearly has the ability to be elite. If the coaches felt he was motivated enough then id definitely do the deal.

Reastically what are the chances of getting someone of the same quality in the 2nd? Even if there are still some high rated tackles on the board you can never be sure how they will perform.

I am with you on this one. I think we should use the first and second pick on the offensive line. Bradford is a good QB but I have concerns about his shoulder, and our offensive line is just a mess. Two tackles or a tackle and guard would be good. I would not take Gaither but stick to the draft.

The only thing I am trying to figure is Shanny's opinion of Mike Williams and Rhino. It sounds like he feels they could dramatically improve with coaching and a better workout regime. Maybe even Heyer could be a decent backup, but he still needs youth on the line.

In any event, I would not pursue Gaither either. I say stick to the draft. How history with veterans being released by their team is not inspiring.

No kidding. A starting LT in the league and they are looking to move him for a 2nd round pick? The BS alarm should be going off on this one.

Or the common sense alarm. They drafted Oher last year. That is their starting LT. They just traded picks for Boldin. Why not take a luxury and try to get a few more picks in return?

Having more than 1 good O lineman is not a luxury, it's a necessity. Moving Gaither would be the equivalent of us trying to trade Chris Samuels after 4 years of his career.

The reason Harbaugh wants to move him is do to work ethic, as in it's questionable. Why would you want to trade for that?

The only way that makes sense is if we had Orlando Pace as well(Not sure why everyone forgets about Oher). As for the questionable work ethic do you have a link for that. I havent heard that.

Just my Opinion if we are interested in Gaither I dont think we even talk trade untill after the draft. I dont see anyone beating down Baltimore's door for this guy. Sure he could be a quality pick up but I want to keep all my draft options open. Every year some real gems fall into the second round and are scooped up in the first 5-7 picks in the second round. We are in a good postion to pick up a real quality young player for this team. I dont want to trade for our tallent, i want to groom and draft our own!!
