One of the victims who survived is posting pictures of him in the hospital:

(mildly gruesome).

We live in a country where it is possible for a anyone to walk into a theater armed with weapons capable of mowing down a crowd. I call any weapon capable of killing multiple people in minutes a weapon of mass destruction.

As long as they are easy to buy, expect more of the same behavior.

If I see one more person turn this into a gun control debate, I am going to lose my mind. Worry about the victims and save the gun control crap once their bodies are cold. He repeatedly had long gun and pistols. He didn't have an assault rifle.

Well, then - that makes everything okay. Shoot away, I say!

And I wasn't creating a gun control debate. I'm simply stating that any weapon capable of mowing down a crowd in minutes is a weapon of mass destruction. As long as it's possible to squeeze off multiple rounds without stopping to reload, the opportunities are ripe for this to happen again.

For my part, I shook my head, felt very sorry for the victims, and turned on the British Open. Why fret over this? It's just going to happen again.

Gun control really wouldn't have stopped this. Forcing all assault weapons to be modified where they can't shoot automatically might keep these from being as tragic.

Help me out here. What was the Wesson AR-15 in his possession used for? Duck hunting? It's an assault weapon. He managed to squeeze off quite a few rounds with that puppy. Gun lovers must be in awe of its power.

According to the Denver Post:

Quote:
Officers say three weapons were used — a shotgun, an assault rifle and a handgun. A second handgun was in his car, but police don't know if it was used in the attack.

I dont often watch the Sunday morning talk shows. But my future mother in law had them running this morning. It is like watching a predictable car wreck in slow motion

Of course the libs were spinning this into a call for more gun control. As Rahm said a crisis is a terrible thing to waste.

You simply cannot prevent this even with restrictive controls. And unlike other crazies I am not sure this guy had a long enough record of mental illness to be picked up on social radar. Plus he appears to be smart enough to hav defeated controls to limit automatic weapon controls

Hear me out as to shally's serious solution to some of these tragedies

The overwhelming majority if not all of these guys who commit mass murder are so socially inept that they cannot form intimate relationships. In crude terms, they aren't getting any! It is well know in psychology that violence is often a substitute for sex in males. Moreover guys who are able to maintain even casual relationships don't often morph into this kind of horrendous killer

Solution?. Decriminalize the sex trade industry so that folks like this guy can have safe access to regular sex. Hell give them free pot too! There is already enough infrastructure available but because it involves criminal behavior my guess would be it wouldn't attract guys like this last one. But if legal and safe? My guess is this might not have happened. Do they have this kind of thing in Amsterdam ?

I know this much what we are doing now won't prevent this horror in the future. Nor will more gun laws. I think it is time to try a different approach

This guy had enough cash to buy about 1500 bucks in weaponry, he had enough for a hooker/pot. The solution, imo, is market based: make it in the interest of a gun store(and manufacturer) to discourage all sales of these weapons and pass specific laws amping up torts on sellers/manufacturers of weapons that can shoot automatically(make it X rounds per second). That will encourage the manufacturers to modify the assault weapons to be exclusively single shot. And before anyone says: "But the Va Tech shooter had 2 semi-auto pistols..." the cops arrived on scene in Colorado within 60 seconds(there were cops close by apparently). 60 seconds of fire from a glock(or even a glock+a shotgun at 1 round every 5-10 seconds) is much different then 60 seconds of a fully automatic assault rifle(which can shoot out 30 rounds in 10 seconds).

LMFAO, legalize prostitution and recreational drugs while we're at it too?! I think your post is half right, but IMHO getting psychopaths laid is not going to solve the problem. I bet even the popcorn pimps wouldn't take this guys money (yes, Fred Davis Pimp Awareness initiative has officially infiltrated this thread along with gun control, child rearing, taladega nights philosophia, Cal's alleged potty mouth, RedskinsDave's firecracker temper, etc).

I'm not a psychologist but my educated guess is that this kind of a sick person will always be able to fly under the radar and figure out a way to stir trouble.

I know I can not be the only one thinking this, but why is a 3 month old baby being taken to a movie theater after midnight? This is an incredible tragedy, and this isn't something that should cross anyone's mind while enjoying themselves as they watch a movie. I just couldn't get that one little bit of information out of my head.

Prayers to all the families that were killed and wounded. I hope the wounded have a full and quick recovery.

This is going to a spark a debate of gun control, much similar to those after the VT and Columbine shootings.

In defense of bringing the kid. When my son was that young (the age where they sleep as much as they're awake) we used to go see movies all the time because the noise wouldn't wake him and he'd sleep 3hrs. So, we timed his naps and saw movies. We never went at midnight, but we could have. There's no chance the 3mo was actually watching the movie.
