Default PFT: Jason La Canfora (JLC or JLac) to NFL Network

http://www.profootballtalk.com/category/rumor-mill/

NFLN Adds Another Insider

Posted by Mike Florio on May 28, 2009, 3:12 p.m.
Redskins beat writer Jason La Canfora of the Washington Post is heading the Network, a source with knowledge of the situation tells us.

La Canfora will join a stable of NFL reporters that has been filling the shoes previously occupied by Adam Schefter.

Schefter, though still technically employed by NFLN, will be moving to ESPN after his contract expires in August.

Because the network is owned by the league, it’s essentially owned in equally-sized 1/32nd chunks by the teams. And so, in a roundabout way, La Canfora will be working for the franchise whose Executive V.P. of Football Operations he accused of slander last year.

“He is a making a mockery of fact and reality and trying to play people for fools,” La Canfora wrote in an e-mail regarding a dispute with Vinny Cerrato over the question of whether his comments about former Raiders coach Lane Kiffin constituted tampering.

“It’s [a] pathetic attempt to slander me,” La Canfora said, ”but not surprising in the least given who it is coming from.”

So now La Canfora and Cerrato are, in a weird sort of way, colleagues.

Does that mean he's leaving the Wash Post permanently?

Good riddance, can't stand the guy and his reports/commentary/blog.

Not as fast as he used to. Where possible, Snyderatto has let stories leak through other sources.

thank god.

biased or not i just didn't like his work.

he was always late on the news, when he is supposed to be the one "breaking" it most of the time.

while i want the beat writers opinion, i don't want it if you are mostly wrong, especially in FA (pierce, clark, smoot, albert) probably others i can't think of. i remember consitently hearing "the skins haven't looked up pierce, but that seems inevitable"

sorry, but whether the guy was biased or not he just never did his job. good luck at NFL Network, hope to never see you on there

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that barring the Post hiring Larry Michael to be the beat writer, the Skins will predictably complain about JLC's replacement being biased for reporting a story that they didn't want to come out lol

eh who cares didn't dislike him or like him really. I found because of his beefs with the Skins management he always sorta positioned his takes to slant to whatever side opposed management.

Agreed. In the beginning I really liked him because he seemed to just report the facts. But after his "beef" with Vinny his take always seems to be biased against the front office.

As with 100% of the posts here regarding the front office. Can you really blame him?

=) I agree the front office has done a really bad job over the years, but for JLC it seems personal. I could be just reading into it too much, but it seems like JLC really hates the FO (Vinny in particular). Now if he were just another fan I wouldn't really have a problem with it, but as a reporter it seems to color his presentation of the facts.

Regardless, I wish him the best.

I don't get why people think he is supposed to break news about the Skins when they have their own media machine. No matter who the Post hires to replace him, the Redskins will treat them the same way.
