Profootball Weekly on Skins chaos: some brutal quotes and a surprise opinion
This popped up today on PFW: an article about the unraveling of the Redskins.
Predictably harsh about Cerrato and his ability to evaluate personnel and his strategy to build a team:
Quote:
|
"When you look at what is wrong with that team, it is very clear," said a veteran personnel man with intimate knowledge of the organization. "They have misevaluated too many players, through free agency and the draft, and they have mismanaged the salary cap, not understanding the value of players."
|
Brutal quotes about Campbell (and Fred Davis):
Quote:
|
"They got a second-round tight end (Fred Davis) who can't get on the field because he is too dumb. They have a first-round quarterback who is just as dumb as the tight end."
|
Surprising endorsement of Snyder:
Quote:
|
"Dan Snyder is not the problem — he wants to win...I think a lot of people in the league would like to work for Dan Snyder. He is a great owner."

Dan would be great if he could just sign checks and check his ego...but I guess that's not how you get to be a millionaire.
Jason is a very good person...but he's not doing something right, among other issues with the offense.
Is Fred dumb? lol? who knows...maybe he doesn't know his routes. HE looked smart enough to me in replacement of Cooley.

The person being quoted loses all credibility when saying that Snyder is a great owner and isn't the problem.

The person loses all credibility by not having the stones to go on record as anything but a "Veteran Personnel man with intimate knowledge of the organization".

I understand why you don't want to go on the record in the NFL. The nail that sticks up is hammered down in the NFL because nobody likes leakers on the record.

A washed up personnel man with connections to the Skins, but hates Vinny.

Ron Nay would be my first guess. Promoted to head of scouting under Marty, ousted by Vinny and intimately familiar with Washington.

I don't think there is any doubt that Vinny is completely incompetent but it's Snyder that keeps him here. The only reason could be either Snyder is even dumber or Snyder really runs things and keeps Vinny around as the punching dummy. Whichever reason, Snyder is the main source of the problem.

I really didn't care for the "dumb" quotes. Also it does sound like this is somebody who doesn't have much good to say about Vinny (I don't)
But this quote.....
Quote:
|
"(Redskins owner) Dan Snyder is not the problem — he wants to win. His problem is that he has not hired capable people to evaluate and get the evaluation of talent correct. He has done a tremendous job marketing and putting money into the franchise. He has done all the things an owner can do. But the one thing he has fallen short on is hiring capable evaluators and letting them do the job. He needs a GM whose strength lies on the evaluation side, not the business side. He has all the capable people to run the business operations.
|
...made me do an eye roll. Who enpowered Vinny? Who hired him? Who's to blame for his (Snyder's) inability to hire capable people?
Dan Snyder! That's who! So in my mind, he is the problem.

one problem with the internet is anyone can write anything they want and claim it came from any source they want as long as it remains totally anonymous.
Profootballweekly? the article is writen by "the staff" in their sidebar is an article dated August 4th about Dwayne Bowe becoming a FF elite receiver... and that's just the first thing I looked at.
I often wish more people would consider the source... there's absolutely zero junalistic accountability to that article.
Much as we all like to see Crazy Eyes ripped, there's zero reason to believe that source wasn't 100% fiction meant to drum up some traffic.

"Dan Snyder destroyed the reputation of this franchise," - John Kent Cooke
Cooke said. "That I was going to be majority partner and leave the team for my sons, both of [whom had] been working for the team for some time. "After all," Cooke continued, "my family had owned that team for 38 years."
Snyder's response, which Cooke said included Snyder saying he wanted to leave the team to his offspring, stunned Cooke. "He said, 'Well, I don't want to do that.' . . .

After a decade you should be able to figure out there has been one constant.
