I have zero sympathy for his execution tonight.
Which brings me to this question. What was is it like living through this back in Oct. of 2002? We didn't start hR till just after all of this happened. I can remember watching the news here in NC and praying for everyone up there. I can remember going to get gas here and looking around. Knowing I was being paranoid, yet paying close attention to the surroundings.
Thanks in advance for sharing your stories.

4 of the 5 October 3rd shootings happened close to where I grew up, and I was up in the DC area when it all happened. I remember seeing the reports of the shootings that day happening in places I would go near daily and just getting increasingly more freaked out, along with wondering if it was someone from the neighborhood or someone I knew. A couple days after that burst of violence, I took my explorer to be filled up and while it was being filled up, I laid down in my backseat until I heard the pump auto-shutoff click. When they didn't have a clear idea of who was doing it, I left at midnight for SC and didn't come back until the 2004 draft lol.

The bastard killed one of my friends. I won't cry for him either, but I am still opposed to Capital Punishment. My desire to him dead is pure vengeance. I wish I could kill him myself.

I live in Manassas, and I remember my mother forbidding me to go outside for that week. I could walk to my friends house that was literally a minute and a half away. We could walk to the bus stop together in the morning. Aside from that, I was under house arrest.
Everybody was terrified because nobody knew who the hell this dude was and what he drove. All we know about was a "white van." We all did our best to pretty much stay inside because this a-hole had our area on lockdown.
Good riddance. Thanks for the death penalty, VA. This guy and his little accomplice deserve it. I don't care if he was corrupted by Muhammad or not. Malvo still pulled the trigger a few times.

Don't forget that they shot a 13 year old boy at a Bowie, MD elementary school. I can understand why your Mom wouldn't let you out of the house.
I remember that whenever I pumped my gas, I did a lot of Bobbing and Weaving and not staying still for a second.

I remember being on Connecticut Ave a few blocks north of the National Zoo when the reports started coming in over the radio. I was still a courier with FedEx at the time, and I had just met up with the courier on the neighboring route to help him with some of his deliveries. We were standing there just looking at each other and saying "WTF?".
I remember being nervous for my wife's safety when we weren't together. She was 8mos pregnant with my youngest son at the time.

Benjamin Tasker Middle School. My father-in-law was a teacher there.

I agree with this sentiment to a tee, though thank the lord he did not take one of my friends. I am opposed to Capitol Punishment as a measure of a civil society, bnut i won't dry one tear over this worthless human being.

I just remember looking for a white Isuzu box-truck that everybody thought he was in. He was pretty close to my neighborhood, too. I didn't have to get gas that day, but it was still pretty creepy. I remember having the same type of feeling I had during 9/11, just not on that massive a scale.

We lived in Centreville, VA at the time...not too far from the shootings in Manassas and the rest of No.Va. Even moreso than 911, I found myself terrified and unsafe in my own community. It can't get any scarier than that. This was a different form of terrorism that most of us civilians had not yet experienced until this happened. I remember doing the zig-zag walk when going to the store...and I made sure my wife never got her own gas. She kept wanting to go to Michaels (craft shop) but I refused to let her go b/c 2 of the incidents happened around a Michaels store. not sure if there was a connection there, but I wasn't taking any chances.
Tonight he dies and I hope he lives an eternity in hell.
I am very much a supporter of the death penalty and I'm proud of my state for being the one to get paybacks tonight.

Same here. If the punishment matches the crime, I have no problem with it.
Thanks to everyone for sharing your stories.

Like I said in the other thread, I was in middle school at the time. The 30 second walk from the bus stop to my house turned into a nightmare and I was afraid to go near windows.

JARRATT, Va. – The mastermind of the 2002 sniper attacks that killed 10 in the Washington, D.C., region has been executed.
A prison spokesman says John Allen Muhammad died by injection at 9:11 p.m. Tuesday at Greensville Correctional Center.
Muhammad was executed for killing Dean Harold Meyers at a gas station during the spree that terrorized Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., over a three-week period. His teenage accomplice, Lee Boyd Malvo, was sentenced to life in prison.
Prison spokesman Larry Traylor says Muhammad had no final words. He says he didn't hear him utter a word during the execution.
