Somehow, his play actually surpassed the hype. Superlative debut.

Holy crap. That dude is downright FILTHY. I've never seen anybody like him. He clocked out at 103 mph I think but that wasn't even the most impressive thing of the night...he was just straight up fooling people.

He's the real freakin' deal and suddenly I'm super, super excited about D.C. sports again. Strassy is the truth.

Between Strasburg and John Wall, the next few years should be pretty exciting.

Last night, I watched the full completion of a baseball game for the first time in well over a decade. Nuff said...

I can't imagine facing a 99-103 MPH fastball, only to try to hit a 81 MPH curve ball that drops off of the table with the next pitch. Amazing with all the hype the game was getting.

I don't know how you can sit and watch a full soccer match. I would seriously rather watch my grass grow.

Its rather easy. Soccer is 2 hours from start to finish and something is always happening. Unlike baseball, which is twice as long and things "happen" half as often.

That being said; watching the Nats game last night was a lot of fun. I was amazed how much pressure rested on that kid's shoulders - yet he didn't it affect him and he came out with one of the best career starts in the sport's history. My original comment was only to fulfill the notion that Strasburg is going to get non-MLB fans (such as myself) to watch/attend his starts.

I watched a Nationals game for the first time in my life. Can't believe it.

I want to see what he does 3 or 4 starts down the road against a major league team. It was an amazing debut, but the Pirates are a joke. He got into trouble in the 4th when it seemed like either he or Rodriguez were over-thinking things by throwing a lot of changeups. The 100 mph fastball-curveball combo were working pretty well the rest of the time.

In one series he had a 98 mph fastball with movement and then a 79 curve that just about fell off the table. That poor batter's knees buckeled so bad - I could stop laughing. .............
Tina got me tickets a month ago to next Friday against CWSoxes. Don't think I see him pitch but I'm still excited about going to the game.

There's striking guys out, and then there's making them look foolish. That curveball is unhittable. There's nothing you can do with it. They weren't even close for most of the night. Very impressive for a guy making his first start.

A lot of people are comparing him to Kerry Wood. Any thoughts? I'm not much of a baseball person anymore but I do remember Wood having a few years of being an unhittable fireballer and then after a few surgeries fell off. I'm also aware that he had Dusty Baker as his manager and that probably had a negative impact on Wood and the other guy Prior.

In a nutshell I just hope that this guy doesn't pull a Kenny Powers.

I don't follow the Cubs, so I don't know about the comparison. I know their fastball is a lot alike. But I don't know if Wood brought 4 different pitches to the table like Stras does.

Actually Wood had Riggleman as his manger for the first 2 years of his career.

Actually according to Riggleman on the radio, Stras will pitch every 5 days which means, away @Indians on 6/13, home against CWS on 6/18, and home against KC on 6/23.

So unless weather or injuries screws up the rotation you will see Strasburg!!!!
I got some $10 tickets to 6/23.

My only concern about the CWS game is IF Obama were to catch a game, it might be that one on 6/18 since he is a CWS fan. That would make the traffic hellacious.

Good luck!

Here's the deal - there is no comparing him to anyone. This kid will make (or bust) himself on his own. RIGHT now it's being said that the "Hype" did not live up to the performance - so take that for what it's worth.
