I'll take Doughty as the fourth safety who contributes exclusively on special teams. And there are worse back-up quarterbacks in the league than the Sex Dragon. NFL teams need cheap depth.

Meh. Sounds like another conversion project. Lets make an outside linebacker into an inside linebacker...

Stop-gap depth measure until we draft somebody next season, IMO.

the problem of course is the 4th safety is never used exclusively on teams as he is one injury away from being used is nickle dime and quarter packages.
And Doughty on special teams is just as big an abortion as coverage, he makes one good tackle every other game and people love it. But i have seen him swing wide and miss angles on teams as well. Speed matters and he just does not have it. Time to move on.
and yes, I also blame Kyle Shanahan for this...somehow!

Possibly, but in that case, I would have stuck with Fox, at least he knows the position.

They all played for the Colts bizarrely...
I like this signing, cheap depth and he has the tools to do well. Low risk, high reward.

I'll take my chances with Doughty on teams as as our depth SS. He doesn't hold up well when compared to NFL starters, but he's not terrible as a back-up.

I still think this is another sign of a draft dominated by OL signings. This FA has been like a flea market buying spree. Completely different then the usual Snyderrato $$$$ over-spending marathon bringing in guys who just want to give 70% and cash in all season.
