*** SPOILER WARNING ***
The actress playing Brienne is Gwendoline Christie.
Not bad in makeup. She is 6 ft 3 w/o heels. Yikes.
Agree I thought Theon's sister was going to be hotter. Can't wait for Jon to meet Ygritte :-)
And yeah, the gratuitous soft-porn is really not necessary.

Is it me, or are they flying through the second book. It's like they have skipped a bunch of minutia. Both in Dany's story arc and the Renly/Stannis conflict.

You are right, I think they are really glossing over things due to time constraints. They only have 10 eps. to get through the whole book and 1 of them will be soley dedicated to the Battle of the Blackwater.
It should start to slow down as I believe Season 3 & 4 are only going to cover ASOS.

The thing that kills me, especially the last 2 weeks, has been how quickly the episode seems to go. After Melisandre birthed the Shadow thing (that should've been the 2nd time, but nevermind that) and it went off, my wife, my boy who comes over to watch and I were all like "There was no way that was an hour".

Supposedly, seasons 3-4 will be the 3rd book and the beginning of the 4th.

Other differences between books and series...
- Glossed over time on the run for Gendry and Arya
- Made it much more obvious Gendry is a Baratheon love child
- Really making Geoffrey into a masochist and someone you hate
- Rushing through the time Danaerys spends in the desert
- Enhancing the soft core porn every chance they get
In general there is a lot of compression going on.
By the way I read the that George R.R. Martin has given the producers the "general elements" of the story in case he either pre-deceases the end of the series. He has also promised that with two books to go, the series will not "catch up" to him, meaning he has to get Book 6 and 7 (final) out within 3 years of this season (Seasons 3-4-5).

If he gets his new book out before I reach menopause it'll be a freaking miracle.
I appreciate why he takes the time that he does, these are not Twilight books after all, but I don't understand why it takes so long to get them out.
I usually can't REMEMBER the previous one, upon reading the next one. I am plowing through book 5 now, and can't remember why everyone is where they are or how they got there, or who's dead or who's still alive.

just another reason to hate geoffrey.
I am listening to an audio book of the second bok while watching this season, I am actually surprised how good it is going. It is remarkably true to the book considering the constraints.
and yes, tyrion Lannister is becoming easily my favorite character in booth the books and show

Give it time. He gets even more likeable.

i figured as much, they are setting him up as the anti-hero. The honorable man (so to speak) that all the other dishonorable men allow to live because they understimate him.

What makes Tyrion so great are things that haven't really happened yet.
They are flying through the book though, because there is a lot that happens to Danaerys in the desert. The one thing I really hope they don't gloss over is Jaime's story line. He has become one of my favorite characters going into the 5th book.

***Spoiler warning***
Don't read unless you've already read the books.
In last night's episode, did they completely skip over the White Walkers attack on the men of the night watch's camp on the fist? What about Jon Snow's discovery of the obsidian blades and arrowheads? These were important developments in the book and some of the most interesting. I hate that this stuff is being omitted while needless scenes to show what a vile monster Joffrey is are being added.

No, I think the attack on the men of the Night's Watch will come in the next 2 episodes. I seem to recall from the books that this takes place as the group with Jon Snow goes to take out the Wildlings watch.
