Pitbull escape artist!

I will preface this by saying this is not my first Pitbull, however it is my first male Pitbull. The girlfriend and I work different hours and it makes to so he only has to stay in his crate, at most, 4 hours. For some reason he recently started breaking out of his crate and I honestly have no idea how to stop him from doing it? We went ahead and bought a heavy duty crate that he shouldn't be able to get out of but last night after he spent all of 20 minutes in it he did it again. He somehow figured out how to undo the top latch on the crate and climbed out lol. He's a great dog, not dog or people aggressive at all just seems to have a bit of seperation anxiety problems. I just wondered if any body else on here has had a problem with an escape artist dog and if so how did you go about training said dog to feel better about the crate? Thanks!!

Twist ties. Use them on the bars of the crate.

We don't use a crate, we confine our dog to one room, the kitchen, with his comfy bed. He used to howl a lot and rip stuff to pieces when we left but he's gotten used to it now and he just sleeps. He's only alone about 4/5 hours a day and after a while, he just got used to it.

When we're leaving him alone, we always follow the same routine and he became accustomed to it. We always take him for a walk before he's alone and then we make him lay in his bed, give him a few treats and close the doors and leave. We sometimes try to give him big treats like a bone or a pig ear but for some reason the dude always saves the big stuff and his main food until we come home again.

i have a female pit bull,but she has never given me problems trying to get out of her cage,but she has destroyed the plastic tray underneath it by chewing it.
instead of twist ties,i'd use those plastic ties similar but smaller than the cops use for mass arrests on the place where the door cage and latch are.

I tried zip ties and he watched me do it so he just chewed them off lol. I haven't tried twist ties though.....

He destroyed the plastic tray underneath his crate almost immediately lol. I tried some heavy duty black duct tape around the top his new crate to keep it latched down and he somehow find the tape and started chewing it off. I've spent this whole weekend basically trying to get him more acclimated to the crate. I think he just gets bored being in there.....

And now the $300 crate has been destroyed. I'm going to have to figure out a way to leave him out during the day......

Maybe he needs more chewing toys. You can get one of those gates that can keep him confined to a room but if he destroyed the cage, he might be able to destroy the gate.

You also may want to try a crate that is sturdier and don't be afraid to let the guy know he screwed up.
