I believe the governor talked about this during the official announcement. The state would have lost money and jobs if the team had moved Redskins Park to MD or DC. And both the District and Maryland had been courting the team, according to reports.

whats so curious about it? shanahan has maintained he prefers to get away from the teams facilities for training camp since he was hired. its been known the team has been looking into it for the last 2-3 years. To me, this is a win-win for the Redskins and Virginia...

So what are you trying to say here? What do you mean by "take it for what its worth"? Of course this was done to keep the Redskins in VA. The Redskins "shopped" around and looked at several possible situations, to me it appears VA stepped up and offered a better deal than MD or DC. Any money the state and local governments contributes now will come back to them plus more later on because of this deal...

Damn, calm down! lol. I meant that there were no "official sources" to this story...no confirmation. It was being discussed by Brian and Brian on WMAL radio that morning.

I'm not much for them being in VA at all or playing in MD. They're the Washington Redskins, not the WashVAMD Redskins...or are they? lol.
It does make a lot of sense though, moving their training camp to Richmond. They need to secure their southern fan base and they got one hell of a sweetheart deal from the state of VA, which the state and city should recoup in a few years with added tourism in Richmond. It's going to be a hell of a boon for that town.

I agree with you about the Stadium. A nice new state of the art Stadium on the Site of RFK would be very cool.

Otherwise, they are the Home Team for a lot of the DMV and still have a large following at points south. Heck, when they had training camp in Carlisle all those years, I'm sure they had a lot a PA fans.

Lord knows how many fans they've lost in the last twenty years of sucking. It's time to turn things around. With a little success and RGIII, I think the Redskins can pick up a lot more fans. I'm optimistic that the days of being the joke of the NFL are rapidly coming to a close.

I like the move, but obviously Im a bit biased being further south. It takes me about 2 1/2 hrs to get to Richmond instead of the 4 1/2 it takes to get to Fed Ex.

Well I dislike this a lot as ashburn is about an hr and 10 away from me and Richmond is about three hours. I'll have to make it to as many practices as I can this year. Did get my season tickets upgraded massively so am happy about that however bummed that I will hav to take an entire day to go to camp next year rather then half a day

I feel similarly as you do. I may have to forgo training camp next year when it is shifted to Richmond. But, I do understand why the Skins did it. Besides getting $$ to upgrade Redskins Park, this move will tend to shore up the southern portion of their fan base.

I think Carolina is going to be a good and exciting team very soon under Cam Newton. The Redskins need to do something to try to stop the northern expansion of the Panthers fan base.

agreed. theres reasons snyder took out seats for a party deck(decrease in fans willing to watch bad team). the move will help extend the fan base

Miss them in Central PA

They actually built up a pretty strong fanbase in the area as there is no real commitment to the Eagles or Steelers. Now this area is actually slowly becoming Raven country. Yuk
