Should the NFL Draft be a Lottery?
In light of the Rome/Stern controversy, it appears that the NBA has some transparency problems with the lottery.
If the NFL had a transparent lottery system to determine the top 1st round picks, would it improve the quality of play in the NFL? What if it wasn't a given that Indy would get luck with their record? What if there was an outside chance that Cleveland, St. Louis and Washington could have claimed that spot? Would it prevent teams from tanking to get a guaranteed #1, and risk facing the ire of their fan base if the gamble doesn't work? Or would it make no difference at all?
I'm not arguing for a lottery, I am just wondering out loud if it would make the game better for the fans. Would a 2- 13 team go all-out to be a spoiler against a team on the bubble of making the playoffs if the #1 pick wasn't guaranteed?

The NBA has no transparency problems.
The NFL draft works fine the way it is. It's easier to tank games in a league where they play 82.

No coach would tank games because it would mean that they would lose their job if they won less then 3-4 games.

This. The tin foil hat contingent comes up with something just about every year, but there is no problem with the NBA draft.

There are far too many principles involved for me to believe that NFL teams are capable of tanking. Further, a lottery can artificially punish truly bad teams just out of bad luck. The draft works perfectly as is.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.
The NBA on the other hand needs fixin. As long as Stern locks the cameras out of the room where they conduct the ping pong ceremony their will be an issue with the NBA draft. Also it should be only the 5 worst teams in the lottery. That will fix the perception of the NBA draft.

i agree about the top 5, no way a team that barely misses the playoffs deserves a shot at a top 5 spot. I can even see going to 8.

NBA will never be as popular as THE NFL because the NFL knows how to put on a show and make even boring sounding things like the nfl draft seem like a big tbone in a party for sir loins only!

What the NFL should do is move the draft around, starting with London...
