Default Detroit to trade down with NE for Taylor

espn insider is reporting that the lions and patriots have agreed to trade picks if the sean taylor is still available for the lions pick 6.

the reported deal is as follows:
the lions 1st round pick (6th) for
the patriots 1st round picks (21st & 32nd) as well as on of their 2nd round picks this year and a forth round pick this year.

my question is how do we screw up this trade for detroit: do we stay at five and pick sean taylor or do we steal the trade away from detroit and take the same offer from NE?

What we can do is draft Taylor then talk to NE and tell them the players we want drafted at 21, 32, and the other picks then deal after all the players are taken. I think our best bet is to wait until draft day and see what offers come in. A division rival of NE like the Jets might be interested in trading ahead of them to really mess them up.

I would take a long look at some of the second tier DE's in this draft, like Babin, and Odom. I would also look hard at the DT's Starks, Dockett, Tubbs & Igor. If I liked one or two of them alot I would definately try to steal this offer from DET.

I think the D-line is the only "hole" left on our team. We could use an impact player at S and TE but I would not say those are things we must have. Whereas I think we must have more impact players on the DL. We could also look at Troupe & Sean Jones if we still wanted a TE or S. This option gives us 3 potential starters. No matter how good Winslow & Taylor look right now, no player is a guarentee, just ask the Browns about players like that. In the last few years they have drafted 3 players in the top 3 and gotten next to nothing out of any of them.

i'd trade down twice and take the best available defensive tackle or end later in the 1st. with 2 extra 2nd rounders, take a center and a guard. i'm not crazy about friedman, raymer (he was good earlier but he's been hurt a lot), moore, dockery or fiore (might retire if his knee doesnt heal up). we got jon jansen, cory raymer and tre johnson in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. who are our starting guards and center right now? those guys slip under the radar and the best available might still be there in the 2nd round.

that deal with detroit include another pick of detroits, if i'm not mistaken. its like detroits 1st and 4th, for ne's (2) 1sts, a 2nd and a 5th, something complicated like that. we cant make those kinds of deal with nothing but a 5th and a 6th after our 1st. we would have to trade our pick for their (2) firsts straight up and they are too low. i'd trade down with a team around the 10 spot who is just head over heals for someone still available at our 5 spot. then trade down from that 10 range to the 18-20 range. we'd conceivably have the 20th pick in the 1st round plus (2) 2nd rounders

we'd have the 20th pick of the first round, plus the 10th and 20th of the second. that might get us 3 starters at "need" positions.

This makes no sense. To NE, that is. NE: Hey let's hope we draft all the right 'skins players, but if we screw up and we fail to get one of em..........then whoa.........i guess they are ours.

This plan ONLY works for the first of New England's picks.

Almost every draft board has Taylor falling to us. We decide where he goes, besides my bet is that the Pats are lookig at a running back they think Detroit covets. Any way you look at it the destiny of Taylor is ours.
