Default Joe Gibbs on Leadership, choosing people and game plans

I had the pleasure of meeting Coach Gibbs in January of 1988. The Skins were in San Diego preparing for their shellacking of the Denver Broncos in SB XXII. I can't remember the name of the Hotel they were staying at. The Lobby was packed and Redskin players were walking in and out, but Coach Gibbs made it a point to talk to all fans who approached him.
I walked over to him and congratulated him for making it to the Super Bowl and he thanked me. I stated I was stationed in San Diego, but from the DC area and a lifelong fan. We chatted for a few more minutes and he signed my Super Bowl Program. Never once during our conversation did he make me feel like I was taking up his valuable time. I walked away with a greater respect for him than I had previously had.
Here was a guy a few days away from one of the biggest games of his coaching career, yet he took time out for the common people. Rarely seen these days...
Coach Gibbs is the type of leader I tried to emulate in my military career and in civilian life, a leader who leads by example!
Those young Redskin fans who don't know much about him, please check out these three clips from the Washington Speakers Bureau. It will give you a brief look at a self made leader who works diligently to get things right. His methods are proven and successful. His record speaks for itself. I really tend to get spun when I hear people bash him 'cause I know where his heart is.

Check out the Preview Videos section on the right of this link and you will see the man is a class act and will lead this team back to PROMINENCE!!

Check him out here...

What a great man. What a great role model. We should all try to be a little more like Joe Gibbs. How fortunate we are as fans to have him leading this franchise.

One other thing I noticed was the fee the WSB charges for his speeches. I'm sure he could get upwards of 100K for each appearance.
It'll be great for him to go back to this after guiding his team to another Super Bowl and proving once again that he is a Great Leader!!!

I never mentioned this, as to how its changed my approach on finances, daily living plan and all, but I bought Joe Gibbs book, "Racing to Win" - Establish Your Game Plan for Success, with Ken Abraham, Multanomah Publishers 2002.

It showed me how to incorporate common day to day measurements of what I do. It has "re-enhanced" my focus on taking a better approach to my days, accountability, and recognizing my moral responsibilities not just to family, but community. The man is just downright awesome!
