I could see them doing something crazy to give them something in the 2nd season to build around.
Even if they do that, there will be plenty of material to build the following season around. Tyrion's farce of trial, his subsequent escape and parting shots (lol), Dany's conquests, trials and tribulations, Lady Stoneheart; Arya's travels, the events surrounding Littlefinger, Sansa Stark and the Vale not to mention Jamie's character development.

They cannot, however, alter the red wedding. That is too much of a material event that affects the plotting of the rest of the story....remember that Arya is yet again, spared from having to witness a traumatic event.

I don't think that they're even going to get to that following season. The finale had the biggest ratings, and it was only about 5 million viewers. With so many new characters next season, cost is going to be an issue very quickly.

***** spoilers ******

They can drop the whole Tyrell storyline as far as I am concerned from the later Novells, where the ugly Tyrell (forget his name) pursues Dany.

*************SPOLIERS******************

Margery Tyrell is a major player though, as his her sweet dear old Granny. :-)

The Margery vs Cersei in the influence over Tommen is one of the more compelling conflicts that has to be maintained in the TV series. It is this competition that causes Cersei to overplay her hand.

Exactly this, I personally found the Cersei/Margery trials against the Faith great in the books.

I meant to say Martells (not Tyrells).

I just finished the series up and whoa. This is an awesome show.

Tyrion and Arya are incredible characters, my favorites in the show. I like Theon a lot too.

I haven't read this thread on purpose.

But I just finished watching season #1 and I can't believe I missed this. I'm about to begin season #2.

Using HBOgo to watch them.

It's very easy to confuse all of the family names etc. I found myself flipping to the back where he breaks all of it down at times just to refresh myself on who is who.

I'm all caught up. Love the show. First season was better than 2nd season. I'm not familiar with the books.

Might try to squeeze them in before the new season.
