Would Fox Sue Fox?
Quote:
The creator of The Simpsons, Matt Groening, says Fox News threatened legal action after an episode poked fun at the channel.

The episode featured a "Fox News Crawl" at the bottom of the screen. It read: "Pointless news crawls up 37 per cent ... Do Democrats cause cancer? Find out at foxnews.com ... Rupert Murdoch: Terrific dancer ... Dow down 5000 points ... Study: 92 per cent of Democrats are gay ... JFK posthumously joins Republican Party ... Oil slicks found to keep seals young, supple ..."

Groening told National Public Radio that, after the episode was broadcast on Fox, he was threatened with legal action by the news channel.

"We did the crawl along the bottom of the screen [and] Fox said they would sue the show," he said. "We called their bluff because we didn't think Rupert Murdoch would pay for Fox to sue itself. We got away with it.

"But now Fox has a new rule that we can't do those little fake news crawls on the bottom of the screen in a cartoon because it might confuse the viewers into thinking it's real news."

Robert Zimmerman, a spokesman for Fox News Channel, denied they had threatened to sue the show. "We are scratching our heads over here. We liked the cartoon. We thought it was great," he said.
Source I don't see how viewers could think that a fake news crawl like the one above is real news. I can see how they might think it is Faux News, though.

Didn't John Fogarty sue himself a few years ago over copywrite infringement of one of his own songs?

Did he? I guess all those drugs he did in the 70s haven't worn off.

I actually posted this around the time that story was dated Tom. Even still, I find it utterly ridiculous.

No matter what the case here, most of Fox news is nonetheless a joke.

amen, they are an abortion of a news channel. If you watch it for a few days, notice one big difference: they rarely put both sides of an issue out, they just put on one side of an issue and say they are giving you both sides. As John Stewart put it, "They should be considered a Comedy Channel, not a news channel"

I like it because their existence pisses off liberals.

No, that was actually Saul Zantz, one time head of Fantasy Records, the ex-label of CCR. Zantz claimed that Fogerty plagiarized a guitar riff in "Run Through the Jungle"--a song Fogerty wrote for CCR--in his new song "Old Man Down the Road," a piece from his solo album released in 1984. Zantz claimed the right to sue since Fantasy owned the rights to CCR's material. On another note, Zantz and Fogerty hated each other with a passion after Zantz swindled the band and basically drove an inflexible wedge between John and his brother Tom. The two never reconciled their differences, as Tom died young from cancer.

Anyway....Zantz lost the case after Fogerty took the stand with guitar in hand. He proved he didn't plagiarise himself by performing for the judge.

Bill O'Reilly - Good Morning America - 3-18-03 -- "And I said on my program, if -- if -- the Americans go in and overthrow Saddam Hussein and it's clean, he has nothing, I will apologize to the nation, and I will not trust the Bush administration again."

O'Reilly has been very critical of Bush of late, but he hasnt issued an 'apology' or been overall negative on Bush

A lot of conservatives don’t like Bush; they just dislike Kerry more.

I personally find that hilarious, and If I had seen that episode I would also find it hilarious.

Good work Fox, good work.
