Where are you LaVar???
Anyone notice how in every football video game since he's been in the league Arrington's name and number are never in any football video games? It always say Linebacker #57 or some crap like that. It pisses me off and I don't know why. I figured maybe he's not in the NFLPA or something like that. I'd like to know.

That is what I've heard. That seems to be the rumor. I also heard he has become a member and that should make his name and # accurate next year.

In his previous contract, LaVar crossed out the boilerplate language that the NFL puts in all player contracts. The language gave the NFL and NFL Players Association marketing rights to the players name and number. I could be wrong but the players get 6 percent of the cut while the Players Association gets a fairly substantial cut to help run its operations and of course the NFL gets some money.
Anyway, LaVar refused to let the NFL market his name and number so consequently no jerseys, hats, or video games with his name and number. He was the ONLY player to refuse to allow his name and number to be used. (If you want to know why, I can post that info, too.)
In his current contract which he signed just a few months ago, LaVar and his agents "forgot" to cross out this provision in his contract. Consequently, the NFL and the Redskins have been selling LaVar jerseys like hotcakes. But just last week, LaVar's attorney wrote the NFL and Reebok and told them to cease and desist any more marketing of his name and number. Remains to be seen who will win this legal battle.
Personally, I think LaVar is being "stupid" about this even if his alledged reason is true.

Yeah, if you ever play fantasy football with individual defensive players he's not in the web leagues (Yahoo, CBSSportsline, etc.) because he's not in the NFLPA.

here's the WP article on this matter..
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...2004Apr12.html
some members of this forum also brought to attention the fact Lavar promised his father that he won't let anybody make money off his family's name.. but he has successfully sued 3 companies over using his name illegally.. which means that he's the only one that wants to make money off his name and not anyone else.
on Madden and probably any other game you can just go to "Edit Player" and type in his real name and jersey # and the announcers will start calling him by his name.. so that part is easily correctable for fans.

He either thinks his name, number and likeness are worth alot more than 6%, or he has some legitimate personal values that he would be violating by allowing the league to use said traits.

I cant believe the nerve of some of you... This is his decision! I mean shouldnt we be free to market our own name if we want to? So he doesnt give other people the rights to make money and use his name as they see fit... We are critisizing him for this??
Its kinda sad to see fans upset because they can't wear his jersey or play him on a video game...

I'm definitely ON the Lavar Arrington Bandwagon! all the Winslow and Taylor Bandwagon stuff are just for fun and debating.

If this was something that a lot of NFL players did I don't think it would be as big of a deal. The fact that LaVar Arrington is the ONLY player in the NFL who doesn't let the NFLPA use his name just seems a little ridiculous to me--Are all these NFL players lacking in integrity by allowing profits on their name, or is LaVar just being difficult? I also don't think it's "sad" that fans want to be able to play as LaVar in a videogame or wear his jersey, those things are part of the fun of being a fan (especially during the offseason). The NFL is an entertainment industry, and LaVar is an entertainer. In my PERSONAL OPINION, he has a responsibility to the fans to join the NFLPA.

Disagree - Lavar has the RIGHT to reject that part of the contract that allows the use of his name. He has his reasons, AND regardless of whether or not YOU or I or anyone likes it, he still has that choice. ....... AND if wearing his jersey and playing him in a videogame are not availible to you - SO WHAT - get over it and move on.

I do not know if there is any truth to it but i talked to a guy at a redskins store before the Lavar Jerseys came out and asked why they were not for sale and he said that Lavar did not sign the contract because he does not like how the NFL allocates money to certain charities, ie he wanted to give more then allowable or something. Also, i was told he eventaully wants to start his own brand.
I dont know if there is any truth to it, but thats what i was told.
And on the most recent roster update for Madden he is in the game....and if not you can just type his name, number and college into the game and like someone said the announcers will say his name.

You answered your own question. I thought though he was going to join when he signed the new contract but maybe he changed his mind again.

we could go round and round here on this one (and we have), but i feel he is getting bad advice from the postons. i agree at the end of the day it is his decision, but my guess is they are the ones trying to milk the cash cow.
