Encounters with celebrities...
One more thread....
Have you ever been out and had a run-in with a celebrity? I have...
While I was stationed in San Pedro, Ca back in '92, I was stationed with a guy that was from Malibu. He was into physical training before joining the service. He ran in the Iron Man a couple of times.
Anyways, Mark used to be the Camerons personal trainer. That is Kurt Cameron and Candice Cameron. [Kurt from "Growing Pains" and Candice from "A Full House"] Mark invited me to go to their house for dinner one night. Kurt wasn't there but I did get to meet Candice. Another guy on my ship was dating their oldest sister...Bridgette. Mark liked the middle sister Melissa. Very cool family. And what surprised me was their house. I mean it was nice and all but the only way you could tell that a "celebrity" lived there was by the gate. But their house was located in a regular looking neighborhood.
One more...On our off time a bunch of guys would go out to "St. Angeles National Park". [I think thats the name of it] I also think it's in Lancaster, Ca. Or it may be in Pasadena....can't remember. Perhaps a local can help me out there....
Well, we were on our way back to San Pedro so we stopped for gas. My buddy Chuck says, "Hey, theres Charlton Heston". Honestly, at the time I didn't know who he was. If Chuck hadn't noticed him I sure as heck wouldn't have. Chuck asked for his autograph and he was nice enough to sign his hat.
I have probably seen/met others but didn't realize it. Now lets hear your stories....

I used to work as a bellman at the Commonwealth Park Suites hotel in Richmond Virginia years ago. A bunch of celebrities stayed there. I had a couple encounters that stood out though.
1. I got to pick up B.B. King from the airport and drive him to the hotel. Real nice guy.
2. Geddy Lee from Rush was a total jerk. I went to his room and he was swearing and yelling because he couldn't get a movie to come in.
3. Ted Nugent came up to me and gave me a Bowhunting magazine that I guess he put out. He told me I needed it. I read it and could never figure out why he thought I needed it.
On a Redskins note although I didn't have much of an interaction except for "Hello" was Gary Clark showed up in a Jaguar with a pretty woman. I think they were there for dinner.

Oh, I almost forgot. When I was about 8 or so Joe Theismann was at our public pool "Hunter Woods" in Reston. He was laying down and I disturbed him to ask for his autograph. He said "You don't have a pen or anything to write on" or something to that effect. I got a pen and couldn't find any paper so I asked him to write it on my arm. I can't remember if he did or not. I remember that he didn't seem like a super friendly guy. I guess I wouldn't either if some eight year old woke me up.
Several years later my sister ended baby sitting for his kids a couple of times.

Once in tysons corner I came around the corner to be face to face with Dexter Manley. Acually he was a bit taller than me. He had a beautiful gal with him and they were in a hurry to escape the paparazi following them. I stepped aside and said hey Dex. He said hey and went on his way.

My dad worked in film and TV for fifteen years. One week on my Mum's annual leave she went with my Dad to work who was working on Batman at the time. She was sitting in his truck when a man wearing dark glasses and a flat cap walked by and asked how she was doing today. She said
"Im hot, Im tired and this has been the most boring day of my life, leave me alone".
Somewhat chastened the man walked away saying,
"Sorry to bother you".
My dad walked up and asked what was wrong.
"Oh just some creep bothering me".
"That creep was Jack Nicholson" replied my dad.

Back in 1987, the wife and I went to Hawaii.
We were staying in Honolulu, and one day I was walking down the beach at Waikiki. I was enjoying looking at the water, and all the girls, when this guy that was jogging down the beach, stopped right next to me to take a break.
That guy was Chuck Norris.
I realized who he was, and I said "Hi", and he said "Hi" back. We shuck hands and then he said "Are you having a good day?" I said "Yes, how can you not have a good day in Hawaii." He said "Yea, you can't beat all the eye candy too." We stoud there for a minute, looking at all the woman, and then he said "Take it easy" and off he went jogging down the beach.

I was on the Today Show back in 1997. Big Al talked to me for a few seconds on air, then we got to talk to Matt & Katie for a minute in the crowd.

The only so called "celebrities" I ever met was Rick Flair (wooooooo) while waling through CNN center in downtown Atlanta, Brooks Robinson, and Stan Musial.
My wife met Gavin Rothesdale (Bush frontman and husband of Gwen Stefani) because he visited her in the hospital after she had a severe asthema attack at a Bush concert in Roanoke, VA.

Our #1 fan.
Let's see, thanx to some friends I've met Shania Twain backstage, Lyle Lovett, Patti Labelle and back in high school when my high school band participated in the Tournament of Roses Parade, I met Isaac from The Loveboat at a party one of the local schools there threw for us.
