I was working at the State Department building right across Constitution Ave. from this guy when this happened. Roads were closed, police checkpoints at every intersection. For one farmer on a tractor he sure did create a big pain in the a$$.
I just have to ask it.

This guy really caused a mess that day but I found the situation to be kinda of comical. .... Think about it, a guy sitting on a tractor in the middle of a pond and is a bomb threat..... Only in DC!

You know, I think if this had happened five years ago--before 9/11--a decent portion of America would have considered him a folk hero. There is a sizable chunk if America, the more rural part, that has gotten their ass kicked in this economy and they're fed up about it. What's more, they don't much care if a bunch of urban commuters get to work late because of this guy.
However, making a bomb threat AFTER 9/11/01 is a good way to alienate even the people who support the message you're trying to get across.

I didn't think it was remotely funny and would not have cared one bit if they shot him to end the standoff. He certainly asked for it.

LOL Now that's a hardcore law and order viewpoint, Dave! I guess my thought that he might make a good tv spokesman for John Deere wouldn't have gone over too well with you, eh?

Hey if they want to let him work in prison to pay for his stay I'm all for it.
