Hard words - but it's a fact - he might just ask to be cut so he could make another team with a greater need.

I agree Andrew. Rock was boosted by Spurrier, Spurrier liked him. All bets are off now with Gibbs here, and shoudl we look at the RB situation, I see Betts, Morton, and McCullough making the roster. I am hoping Rock makes it, but i just can not see how he will fit here.

I completely agree that Betts sucks. Rock will back up and be a short yardage back. He should have started last year, but Spurrier was so enamored with speed he never looked at the all around back. He has better hands and blocking than Betts and Mclough, and he is a better in between tackles runner. He won't be cut.

He should be the number 2 back I have more faith in him than Morton or Betts, also rather funny how we call him a little guy yea he is 5'7'' but he also weighs 223 pounds. He's our biggest back.

Went with less than 5 carries. I think he will make the team because of his heart and his versatility at TB, FB, and ST. He might not be our #1 option at FB or TB, but he could fill either role, and I believe Gibbs likes these kind of guys.

I seem to remember Rock running the ball better than anyone else last year, he should definately earn the backup job.The only bad play he had was the one fumble on the goal line, and Spurrier overreacted and benched him pretty much for the remainder of the season. Stupid move, since the entire running game got benched with him.

Rock was very effective last year running the ball and catching passes out of the backfield. A lot of people say that his size is a dissadvantage however I think that it can be an advantage, Rock's short stature gives him great leverage, allowing him to break tackles. Being only 5'7 ensures that defensive playes cant' get as many shots on his body as they can with taller running backs. If you look at the best running backs in this league, the Clinton Portises, the Marshall Faulks, the Preist Holmeses, the vast majority of them are 5'11 and under. Priest Holmes is only 5'9. Now I'm not saying that Rock is the next Priest Holmes but I am saying that you can't argue with production, and Rock produced 2nd most yards of any running back on the team last year. Talk all you want about Bett's and his potential but the fact of the matter is that he doesn't have great vision, somethign I thing Rock has.
I can't see Rock getting released, he's a dynamic player and I think that Gibb's and co. will find a way to use him that will make the most out of his talents.

My thinking is that if Sellers come to camp as a good citizen that he will in fact bump Rock out of f.b.!

Gibbs will not go w/ a 'true FB.' He runs a single back TE and H-back offense. There's no FB in Gibbs' offense!!!!!!!!!!
There's no FB in Gibbs' offense!!!!!!!!!!

H-Back H-back H-Back H-back,
H-back is not a FB, H-Back is not a TE,

I'm not trying to single anyone out or be rude, but there seems to be confusion about what this offense will consist of, and a FB will not be one of them. An H-back has to be able to line-up along the line of scrimmage and block. Unfortunetely I can't see Rock lining up right across Jevon Kearse. Rock will be trying out as a RB/TB/HB/etc...

likable player ... but I think he's a pre-season cut
too many other needs will have priority over keeping an undersized FB who's going to be probably 12th on the depth chart if you include H-Back and RB together ...

Could not commit to anything.I have to wait and see what position he ends up trying for.I have read he could be anything from a RB,H-back,or even a power back.I will wait and see what position he ends up playing first.

i think spurrier tried to use him against that dude from tampa bay who got those 4 sacks and made defensive player of the week against us.

E8 no rudeness taken, notice however that I warned 'IF' Gibbs goes with a true fullback position! I was around for "Gibbs, round 1" and I know what you are saying. However I feel we shouldn't expect the Gibbs of 04 to be so stuck in his ways that the fullback position is outlawed in some way! Trying to be openminded. Sure it looks like half the roster right now is an H-back possiblity but until they get into camp and play the preseason games things may change. Some guys at H may outright suck at it? The kid Cooley may be overwhelmed by what Gibbs throws at him in camp? Depending on what these guys real show Gibbs he may decide we're better off with one or two decent fullbacks that he can count on, than H-backs that may not prove to be as good as everyone seems to think. He "May" have to adapt to the personnel. Just to clear up the original post if it was taken up wrong.

Took the words right out of my mouth, don't count anything out with Gibbs. He has already stated that he is changing up some of his schemes, to keep the other teams guessing. And like Jon was alluding to above, Gibbs makes the most out of who he has and bases his offense around those players abilities. If he thinks that a fullback would be what this offense needs, then I have no doubt we will have a fullback in the backfield.
