Default My high school football team

My team, Landstown, was the state runner up last year, but were extremely cocky and arrogant the whole year, hurting the reputation at landstown.

This year, the first game, our star receiver was ejected for committing two unsportsmanlike penalties, one of which was committed with less than a minute to go and we were up 51-13, a he show-boated after scoring a TD. Our second game, this friday, we won again, against another strong team in our district, and at the handshake, one of their coaches side tackled one of our coaches, leading to a huge melee that toke several other coaches and poilce officers to break up. I fear that this will hurt the reputation of my school and i fear that my sister and friends, who play for the field hockey team, and I, trying for baseball, my get hurt because the whole area will sterotype the school as arrogant jerks, and purposely hack my sister, or throw at my head.

What do you guys think of the situation?

Sounds like THE COACH needs to regain control of his program, or establish control, whichever the case may be.

My coach always told the players before the first game, if you do anything other than hand the ball back to the ref after a touchdown, I will take you out of the game and you won't see the field again.

Don't embarass yourself or the program.

Everyone says the coach doesnt really care, he's just using this as a stepping stone to bigger and better things, apparently he's had this same problem everywhere he's been, and whenever people talk about it, he says that everyone else is just jealous of his team.

Well, it's all in your coaches hand now. He should make the guys run hills after school every practice. End 30-60 mins late. He should do what ISF said. Take them out of the game.

I have read about coach beatty in the local papers.....he seems to look like a class A jerk off, the story of him trying to take players from other schools and how the team has been conducting themselves is really sad, i work at the golds right next to the school and we have a lot of staff and students come over here, they all seem to be good people so i can only say that as bad as things are right now i do not think that other people and schools will judge you guys off his teams actions. good luck this year.

I actually have heard a couple of stories about your school Skaggs.

That's not a good sign when a HS football team is talked about in a negative manner like that beyond that team's actual local area.

ohh!!! I know your coach... Well I've heard some stories about him. Damn and you live all the way in Virginia Beach. That's sad. Why doesn't the principal just fire him?

We have a new principal this year, last year, our principal really didnt seem to care either, since they were winning. The new principal is a lot different and might no tolerate it.

The bottom line is...accountability. The coach is accountable not only for his actions on the field but also, to a degree, his players actions. Discipline is one of the key components of any great football team and I am willing to bet that same team might have won the state title last year not runner-up if the discipline was there. The coaches and the players will eventually be held accountable for there actions and I can guarantee their behavior will come back to haunt them.

As for you and your sister, just remember that you are held accountable for your actions and take the initiative to be good team members and players. I have played sports for many years and have coached for several more and the opponents that stick out in my mind the most are the ones that played great but handled themselves in a sportsmanlike (or sportswomanlike) way because in the long run, the ability to play and coach sports leaves us all but the way we represent ourselves to our peers will always follow us.
