I didn't get to watch the game. Answer this
I live in the Nashville area, and the regional markets make sure I don't get to see the Redskins on Sundays. Nevertheless, I am shocked that the Browns offense was as efficient as it was, especially the passing game. Garcia has been horrible this season. How did he put up the numbers that he did?

1. We don't know how to defend the bootleg, which is Garcia's bread & butter. 99% of his completions and yards came on screens or bootlegs.
2. Many of our blitzers over-pursued, leaving the underneath guy wide open.
3. Lee Suggs looked like Jim Brown against our defense, so the running game opened up a lot.

the defense while not really costing us the game looked awful when it counted most. all of a sudden on the browns drive they left either the TE or FB wide open like three times in a row. our blitzers just weren't getting to garcia and he made them pay.

Did anybody notice, on the fake field goal by Cleveland, that there was a guy that was wide, and I mean WIDE OPEN deep. Sean Taylor(along with others) went for the short route, and no one, and I mean NO ONE covered the deep route. Maybe the place holders contacts fell out and couldn't see that far, but we really lucked out on that play. Let's hope we're ready for more fakes in the future, b/c we would've been burned had he just thrown the ball....

Garcia threw dump passes to his TE or FB who was wide open with no one covering because we were blitzing. He made one decent long throw the whole game.
Our dump passes did not produce the same results because he Browns play a "contain' defense and do not rush the passer that much so the recipients of our dump passes were covered by LB and tackled for not much yardage.

garcia truly wasnt effective. ryan leaf could complete those kinda passes all game long. everybody is too quick to say that the bootleg killed us. it did, but only on that one drive. our blitzers stuck with garcia, and he couldnt pull that off anymore, we even drew an intentional grounding call. lee suggs broke off 2 good runs and that was about it for him. 17 points is not what i consider a strong offensive performance. our offense needs to start clicking, which will take some time since we had a big roster overhaul.

Ohiofan is absolutely right... the blitzers didn't make the big play which always leaves open the threat of a big play for the offense. it isn't like garcia made amazing plays... these guys were wide open.

"You Blitz, You get Burned" . . . It is a risky call, but I have faith that each week Coach Williams will get these guys better at it. Will also help when LaVar is back and some of the defense is not dinged up.

i think you guys pretty much covered it. im most likely wrong but garcia probably had like 5 or 6 completions to his WRs. lots of bootlegs to the TEs and backs and lots of screens. special teams and turnovers gave the browns great field position all game long. lee suggs made a difference, but like mentioned before, he had about 3 really good runs. on one run he shook about 3 skins defenders and on the others he broke a few tackles.

Yeah, the FLATS were open all day. A TE would catch the ball 3 yards downfield (towards the sidelines.....FLATS), and no one would TOUCH him until he was like 15 yards down field.
