Why.....or why not?

Whoa.
I saw the title of this thread and figured it was another dumb trade idea that you see so often on internet chat boards and sports talk radio. Boy, was I wrong. Good scenario.
My answer: Yes, Gibbs would take that deal in a second. Roethlisberger is the Rookie of the Year so far and whomever is in second place is so far back I don't know who it would be. I'd make that deal, too. I like Taylor and think he will improve, but if you can trade a good safety [even a great safety] for a good quarterback, you do it in a heartbeat.
No way the Steelers would make that trade, though.

What do you mean?
Right now?
At the end of the season?
Prior to the start of the season?
I don't understand the point of the thread since it won't happen anytime soon, but I guess I would answer no, since players like Roy Williams, Ed Reed and hopefully, Sean Taylor, don't come down the pike very often.

i think we would actually. big ben will be a very very good QB in the NFL, just as sean taylor will be a top safety one day. but with the way gregg williams can plug and play all kinds of players into his lineup, he could get away with playing a lesser player. with that said, sean taylor will continue to grow and be the stud we all (at least most of us) think he will be. he has game changing potential and im glad he is a redskin......

I see both sides of this but that deal would never go down. First of all, Ram would have a fit... second, Maybe, just Maybe Pit makes that deal at the end of pre-season. Not now. Besides. Roth is good but he's still a rook and will go through his lumps like any other rookie QB. I think we Keep ST and Build a core gruop of defenders sort of like the Ravens always have and make do w/ whomever we have at QB. That's the Gibbs way. We'll never have a Dan Marino type franchise QB. This is the "Gibbs show" not the Qb's show.

Did anyone see that Dallas-Pittsburgh game yesterday? Sure, the Steelers got a bit of luck to win that one, but those things happen over the course of a long season. What impressed me is that Big Ben is like some Jedi dude back there. He is unflappable. He holds on to the ball as long as it takes, improvises brilliantly, is not afraid to take a hit, and runs far better than I thought he did. I don't know what the future holds for Ben, but he looks weirdly good right now. Not in the Marino class as a rookie, but definitely in the next group down. That's a pretty exclusive group to be in.

No, Gibbs would love to have an elite quarterback. He'd take an elite QB over an elite safety any day of the week. Every NFL coach would. Same goes for college, high school, and Pop Warner.

I saw the game and cheered for the steelers because
A- Ben was my startign Fantasy QB
B- because I hate Dallas
The kid is good. He's going to be the Steelers qb for many years to come.

I think that's very true in every case but Gibbs'. He's never had that elite qb and never needed one to win. What's different now? Ok, ok maybe now he see's the need for an elite QB? Possible but I just don't buy it.

I like tylor better. You have to think they have plaxico burress and hines ward and a bruiser of a runner in duece staley I think ben is a very good qb but he is surrounded by excellent weapon. Coles, Gardener, and Portis are all amaizing and portis better than staley but I've seen burress especially and hine ward make some catches that would be far fetched for our recievers to make. I think Ramsey could have been as good if he were mobile and didn't have spurrier now I'm not sure he'll even be good at all.

But Joe had his chance to draft Big Ben, and he didn't. If he was really enamored with him, he would have drafted him.
There are a lot players in the league you would want to trade for after you have seen them play. This whole scenario is moot at this point anyway.

Well, I LOVE Taylor.....but Big Ben is scary impressive (so far). As much as I cheered for us when we selected Sean Taylor, if this trade was somehow possible, I would do it in a heartbeat (based on what I've seen so far, but the season is still young).
