Playoff's?? Playoff's???
I dont recall seeing this posted, and I know it sounds absurd given our record at this point, but we are only one game out of being tied for the last wild card slot (GB, DET, and STL are all 4-4). I know we have a tough schedule coming up, especially compared to the easy run we started with, but if we can get the offense to right the ship and join our lethal D we still have a shot at this thing.
I am especially intrigued after watching the Eagles get dismantled today by a good defense (check) and running game (check). That game led me to think we can maybe sneak a game or two from them, and Minnesota looks like they are starting their second half collapse on schedule also. Throw in the Jeckly & Hyde Dallas and Giant teams and our schedule maybe isnt as hard as it first appears.
Maybe I am just an extreme optimist, but making the playoffs at 9-7 doesn't seem impossible given the weakness of the NFC right now. We just need to take it one game at a time.

congrats on being the first to mention the possibility. the cojones it must've taken are not in the least undercut by the mora allusion or the one game at a time disclaimer. i salute you. still, i just don't think we can pull it off w/out the deep threat. brunell is not able. if pramsey comes in i'll start entertaining the idea.

I certainly think we can finish the season 7-1 or 6-2 IF we start to score over 20 pts/game and have at least 200 yards passing. Our defense is in the top 5 in the league right now. Ultimately defense wins games BUT not until offense will get something done.
BTW Coles scored his first TD vs. lions and Brunell's passer rating is 67,4 with a 51.1 completion %. --------> our record 3-5

i never give up hope, but i promised myself i wouldn't keep looking at the schedule and figuring out what would need to happen unless we beat green bay and detroit. keep in mind that we'd have to finish a game better than GB b/c they beat us.

There is a whole half of season to go . . . And as much as I love our Beloved Team, I don't expect the playoffs . . . I just want 8 - 8 . . . But first I want to see our passing game improved - alot !!! No answers, just wishes ! And we should start with the Cincy game!

Well, I predicted a post season berth in the midst of a losing streak(check my sig ) but for now, let's take it one game at a time. Every game from now on is a REAL PLAYOFF game.

It's not out of the question in the NFC. A lot of 3-5 and 4-4 teams. Who are the wildcard teams in the NFC? A couple weeks ago everyone said the Giants and Detroit, and look at those teams now. Now, I'd go with Green Bay as one and I'm not sure about the other. 9-7 could get you in this year.

Ummmm - Gibbs has already gone down as one of the best coaches in history. The main question is if he cant turn this team around in 5 years then will that hurt his rep. I dont think it will hurt him at all... (but I also fully expect him to turn it around and win another SB in 5 years).

It's a stretch but I just don't see it this year.

Meh, you're right when talking about Minnesota, Giants, Cowfags, and Eagles; however they always play well against the 'Skins.
Our defense will keep us in every game this year, its a matter of whether the offense can pull it out or not.

A lot of coaches cut the season into quarters.
The first quarter of the season, the Skins were 1-3
The 2nd quarter of the season, the Skins just finished 2-2
It seems like small progress...but I'll take any progress at this time.
If the Skins were to flatten off and continue going .500 for their last two quarters of the season, they would finish 7-9.
If the Skins were to continue this progress and win 3 of their 4 games in each of the last two quarters, the team would finish 9-7.
I'm thinking we will see something in the middle...that gives them an 8-8 season or 7-9 season.

The Redskins still have to play Philadelphia twice and the Steelers once. I don't see a win there. If the Redskins lose all three--a very distinct possibility--they have eight losses. Even in the watered down playoff system of the 21st century NFL I don't see the Skins making it to the playoffs with eight losses. Recall that if the Skins do lose both games to Philly we're looking at a divisonal record of, at best, 2 wins and four losses. Then there is the small matter of Minnesota. Now, I believe that's the final game of the season and if they have their playoff spot wrapped up they might sit their starters and give the Skins a chance to steal a game they could not ordinarily win. If Minny needs to play its starters we almost surely lose that game, too. That's nine losses. And that's the best case scenario.
