Arrow Mid Season Grades

Thought this would be the time to look at the Teams performance to date. The grade scale is A to F! Think of your grades based on the entire Team performance and the contribution that each unit and their respective players makes to the entire Team effort. The grade should reflect the performance of the UNIT, just not a single, obviously good or bad, player
Brief supporting remarks encouraged!

OFFENSE
QB - D (hoping Ramsey will do much better then Brunell with a full start)

O-LINE -C (A decent job at pass blocking lately, and the run blocking has been decent...Centers needs to call Blitzes a bit better and the line needs to open bigger holes so that Portis can see daylight and post some longer runs thus giving him more 100 yard plus games.)

RB - B (Portis is getting it done and taking a beating for the # of carries he's getting, Betts is solid at running and has showed flashes of brilliance in his carries but is an atrocious blocker and isint much of a pass catching threat)

WR - D ( Coles needs to step up and is dropping passes, Rod needs to catch
more balls when being counted on...but am hoping McCants can spark this group...Jacobs needs to get open alot more often...these guys need to play to potential)

TE/H-Backs- C (blocking has been good and not too many penalties commited by these guys that are playing a really tough posistion in terms of timing. Cooley specifically has showed flashes of his great hands but poor QB play has lacked these guys to show their stuff.)

Coach - B (you may wonder why I say this but A coach can only do so much, as much as this is un-typical Gibbs offense thats taking place, I think there's alot of new players and JG's offense is a hard one to just pick up right away, so im putting the woes of this offense squarely on the shoulders of the players...but Gibbs needs to motivate these guys to get things on track for themselves.

DEFENSE

LB's - A (Considering the play by these guys without their leader LaVar Arrington you have to give these guys credit, Washington is making a strong contribution on the outside, while Pierce is amazing and makes it tough for Barrow to break into that spot even when he is healthy. With the hopeful return of Arrington these 3 guys and the solid backups make this a unit not to reckon with.

D-Line- B (Griffin is having a marvelous season and is showing why he was the drafted in the top 50 of the 2000 draft. Wynn and the defensive ends are applying pressure on QB's and are defending the run with a vengeance. This unit needs to continue to solidify its run defence and needs to apply even more pressure and generate some turnovers)

Safety- A (Sean Taylor seems to finnally be playing the way we had hoped he would after drafting him with our #5 pick overall. He's supporting the run and the pass and making plays all over the field....with his range its gonna be scary when Arrington returns and we have the 2 of them guarding the field with the range to make stops all over it. He picked off the first pass of the game in the Cincinatti game and added 8 tackles, one being a devastating clothesline arm tackle on usually a pretty solid runner Rudi Johnson. Clark is a rackling machine, but you just cant help but miss Matt Bowen and the amazing job at applying pressure he had earlier on.

Cornerback- C (Springs and Smoot were having amazing season prior to the Cincy game, but when a young QB is throwing all over you with a reciever that's name i cant even pronounce you know something is up...call it a bad game maybe but the only real threat QB's they've played against was Favre and Garcia. Time will tell as Rothelisberger and Mcnabb will be back to back.

Coach- A ( I don't think you can ask much more out of G.Williams and his assistants...they've done an amazing job even with injuries to several key players...Brightest part the redskins thus far.

SPECIAL TEAMS
Kicker- D ( With the injury to hall the range of our field goals is cut down quite a bit Kimrin's miss of the 47 yard field goal showed his in experience and our need for hall)

Punter-A ( Tupa has been a bright spot as he is the top punter in the NFC...he's continually setting up our defence to do their job.)

Return Unit- B+ (nothing spectacular but nothing to bad either)

Return Man- Betts is a poor return man, but with the right blocking Thrash could take it to the house.)

Coach- B (so far so good on this front, needs to find a more suitable back up for Hall though)

OVERALL- C ( I feel that if the Defense keeps it play at the high level they are going and Ramsey throws the ball well it will open up things for portis, take pressure off the defence and we can start winning some games. McCants might just be the spark we need to get the recievers going again and I believe its completly possible to pick up our pants and improve on our dismal record of 5-11 to possibly get 6 or even 7 wins.

The O Line, they got a D OVERALL, but it was mainly two players commiting some back breaking plays - negative that is.

Also the overall receiving corps may have had dropsies while Brunell was in, but now that Ramsey is in, if they still have it, trust me the old man will clean house. There's only two however that could hit the bubble and one isn't likely, sooooo.

there is something VERY good about this team though. They are mature and in the last 2 qtrs of the Cincy game, they were confiding in each other and communicating, using instincts, giving feedback, reaching the goal (three times!).
