Default WWE vs. Monday Night Football!!

The WWE took a pretty blatant shot at MNF last night, opening their show with a pretaped segment featuring Shelton Benjamin and Trish Stratus spoofing the MNF/Desperate Houswives skit that landed MNF in such hot water last week.

Actually, the segment was pretty funny, as Mr. McMahon came out and interrupted the two, acting "shocked" about the moral and racial connotations of what was occurring. This prompted Benjamin (who if you don't know, happens to be African American) to tell McMahon to "Lighten Up" before heading out to the ring. After Benjamin had left, Trish dropped the towel and jumped into McMahon's arms. The MNF theme music played, and McMahon said "Are you ready for some WRESTLING?"

I'm sorry, but this had me howling.

I turned it on 10 minutes late so I missed it, I did hear the King say that Trish wished she was still back with Mr. McMahon during her match...I had no idea what he was talking about at the time.

I was like bfauble. I was switching between three shows. Football, Wrestling, and the Tar Heels basketball game. So I missed the first 5 or so minutes of the show.

Sounds pretty funny though.

Evil, to your knowledge, do you know if Trish Stratus has done a spread for a certain "men's" magazine? If so, I may have to purchase it, as I am sure there is a well written article about her.

I hesitate to write this, as there are those who would label me for it (Giddy), but:

No, TB, to my knowledge there is no Trish Stratus spread in that "certain men's magazine" to date. The only WWE personnell that I know have been in, in fact, are Chyna (twice), Sable (twice), and Torrie Wilson (Twice) (There were rumors of a Stacey Keibler / Miss Jackie appearance, but it was a marketing ploy). If there are others I am not aware of them. Ironically, Trish IS on the cover of Oprah's Oxygen mag this month.

For less "In Depth" "articles" on Trish and all the others, divas.wwe.com is a good SFW alternative.

You are not labeled sir. (Sadly) I knew that information as well. I was just laughing to myself about the oddness of it all. Randy Orton was on the cover of GQ.... now THAT was a GREAT "article".

This was in the New York Daily news today, as followup:

MNF spot gag-teamed
By RICHARD HUFF
DAILY NEWS TV EDITOR

Leave it to WWE boss Vince McMahon to poke a stick in the eye of the NFL, NBA and the FCC. McMahon, the over-the-top head of the WWE, began Monday's telecast of "Raw" on Spike TV with a sendup of the controversial "Monday Night Football" "Desperate Housewives" promo that got ABC and the NFL in hot water.

Taking a page from ABC, McMahon showed African-American wrestler Shelton Benjamin in a locker room, when busty female wrestler Trish Stratus walked in wearing a towel - and, oddly, a face mask.

"What about my needs?," she said, mimicking Nicollette Sheridan's line in the ABC spot. "What about Trish?"

Just as Stratus was to drop her towel, a la Sheridan, McMahon burst into the locker room shouting.

"This is unconscionable," McMahon said. "This is scandalous. I can see the moral fabric of America disintegrating right before my very eyes. The sexual overtones, the racial overtones..."

The WWE sendup came a week to the day following the now-infamous "Monday Night Football" introduction that had Nicollette Sheridan dropping her towel to entice Philadelphia Eagles star Terrell Owens away from football to her.

Viewers flooded ABC and the NFL will calls and E-mails complaining. More than 50,000 indecency complaints were also filed with the FCC.

"Raw," however, which airs Monday's on Spike TV, is different from "MNF" in that it's classified as entertainment (rather than a sporting event) and carries content warnings to alert parents of questionable content. Sports and news programming do not carry such warnings.

Besides joking about the end of the moral fabric, McMahon also took direct shots at the NFL and the NBA, which is dealing with the fallout from last week's Pistons-Pacers' fan rumble.

"I'm sorry, the FCC is not going to tolerate this, and neither will I," McMahon said. "I'm not going to have a locker room of deviants. This is the WWE, this is not the NFL and it damn sure is not the NBA. This is the kind of sexual titillation that would send you up into the stands and attack the audience."

Representatives from the NFL and ABC had no comment about the spoof.

Apparently ABC and MNF were not impressed. HAHAHAHA!

Anything to do with Trish Stratus and towel dropping is okay in my book.
