Default What we'll win

I am reading more and more about the distinct possibility that the Shiite majority in Iraq, guaranteed to win the upcoming elections, will create an Islamic state (contradicting the administrations hope's and assurances that a secular, democratic society will be the fruits of our war) which could be influenced or even controlled by IRAN.

In an editorial by Daniel Sneider of the San Jose Mercury News (go to the paper's website, it is easy to find), Jordan's King Abdullah is quoted as telling the Washington Post that "...a million Iranians have crossed the borders to vote and that the Iranian regime is flooding the country with money". Further, former U.S. Ambassador Peter Galbraith, asserts that "It will be a singular achievement of President Bush that he invaded Iraq for the purpose of turning the country over to the Iranians".

So any supporters of the war out there; no WMD, no links to terrorist attacks on the U.S., and perhaps a clerical Islamic state replacing Hussien's secular government. Why are we there?

Iran and Syria have rejected U.S. and Iraqi claims they support Iraq's insurgency, but Damascus has said it is unable to fully close its long, porous border with its neighbor. Shalan's comments may have been aimed at trying to stir up sentiment against the United Iraqi Alliance, a leading coalition of mainly Shiite candidates, some with close ties to Iran, which is expected to do well in the vote.

History will " little note, nor long remember . . ." President George W. Bush as anything more than an incompetent; a failure in the foreign policy arena.
