Vinsanity headed to New Jersey?
Ex Tar Heel headed below the border, FINALLY!
Quote:
The New Jersey Nets and Toronto Raptors are awaiting league approval of a trade that would send Vince Carter to the Nets, according to several league sources.
The Raptors would acquire Alonzo Mourning, Eric Williams, Aaron Williams and two first-round draft picks in exchange for Carter. The trade cannot be announced until the NBA approves it for salary-cap purposes, which could happen before the end of the day.
All trades must be approved by the league office and players must pass physicals before they can become official. Carter is currently on the injured list with a strained left Achilles' tendon suffered last Friday and will miss at least five games.

I really don't understand this deal for the Nets. Yea they have a main attraction to sell tickets and they'll probably keep Jason Kidd happy but they now have NO front line whatsoever. They have no big men whatsoever on the team now that they got rid of Zo and Aaron Williams plus they took a large contract so they still have no cap room flexability. I just don't understand it at all.

I think it's an excellent trade for the Nets. They could move Richard Jefferson to small fwd and have arguably the best backcourt in basketball with Carter and Jason Kidd (providing they can both stay healthy). Jason Collins can play center until Jabari Smith comes back. They must have someone in mind for frontline help and feel real good about Scalabrine.
I think the Nets can make a push in what is now the weekest division in the NBA. They're only a few games out. And you know VC will be pumped to get back stateside...

You have to be able to stop someone to win games. Carter is a very poor defender, Jefferson is average at best, and no one on their frontline scares u. The only defensive stopper they have is Kidd. They will win more games with this team but if they even lose one frontcourt player to injury they are done or if they sustain foul trouble with their bigs they are done. Carter is a good player but not worth all they gave up.

I don't think they are too worried about D in the Eastern Conference...they'll be able to outscore alot of teams. They have no choice. I think Carter is more than a good player. He will be eager to prove this as long as he can stay healthy. I know what a nagging injury like a strained achilles tendon feels like, he has to be real careful.

The Nets weren't doing anything w/ their current front court anyway, it's not like they gave up Shaq, they gave up bit players. 'Zo is ok at this point and so is eric Williams and Aaron Williams is a good role player but all expendable parts. I think Vince needed a change of scenery and now he has it and i expect he'll be closer to the satr player he was a few years ago than the decent player he has been the past few years.

Agreed.
I'm the happiest about being able to see Vince play more. Toronto didn't get a lot of exposure. So it was hard to see him play. Now I'll get to see him play some games.

I'm not a huge NBA fan but i follow the Nets(just not as passionately as the Jets, Yanks or UNC) and it's rare we get a Tar Heel on the team. Hubert davis signed lat last year but barely played and we had Montross for a little while but I'm really pumped up about being able to see Vince nightly. The offseason was brutal fro the Nets as it took my lifetime to become a big time team then they tore it down so quickly but this move makes up for some of it. I just wish we still had Kenyon to go along w/ Vince, Kidd and Jefferson

the loss of 2 first round picks isnt as big as it sounds, cause the nets got 3 for kenyon martin
i think its a good deal for the nets, cause 'zo was the only person i had heard of, and he's getting old and his health really is still a question

Its a good trade for the Nets. I figure itll only be about two years before Vince starts crying and demanding a trade.
And as far as wathcing him play you'll be lucky to get 50 games out of Vince in a season. I guess we should just be thankful that he doesnt have to go to anymore graduations.

Sportcenter reported last night that Vince Carter was trying to undermine the Raptors before he was traded.
3 Supersonics have gone on record saying that Vince Carter told them what play they were going to run as they came out of a TO. Was Vince trying to sink the boat before he got dealt?

I was about to raise this myself ISF.
I don't know what to believe. He says he didn't. Seattle players says he did. Who knows. I pray that he didn't. But.....
Surprisingly the Raptors GM said that it happens more than people think....
