Default The only way to make the playoffs:

Current NFC playoffs:

#1 Eagles – 12-1 Dallas, @ St. Louis, Cincy
#2 Falcons – 11-3 WIN, @ NO, @ Seattle
#3 Packers – 8-5 Jax, @ Minnesota, @ Chicago
#4 Seahawks – 7-6 @ NYJ, Arizona, Atlanta
#5 Vikings – 7-6 @Detroit, GB, @ Washington
Rams – 6-7 @Arizona, Philly, NY Jets
Panthers – 6-8 LOSS, @ TB, NO
Cowboys – 5-8 @Philly, Washington, @ Giants
Lions – 5-8 Minnesota, Chicago, @ Tennessee
Bears – 5-8 Houston, @ Detroit, GB
Bucs – 5-8 NO, Carolina, @ Arizona
Saints – 5-8 @TB, Atlanta, @ Carolina
Giants – 5-9 LOSS, @ Cincy, Dallas
Redskins – 5-9 WIN, @ Dallas, Minnesota
Cardinals – 4-9 St. Louis, @ Sea, TB

What the Redskins need to be the #6 seed:
Win last 2 games, which would make them 7-9
Panthers lose 1, Rams lose 2, Cowboys lose 1, Lions lose 1, Bears lose 1, Bucs lose 1, Saints lose 1, Giants lose 1

For the 6th seed, we need:

1. Panthers lose 1 more against Tampa Bay or New Orleans OR Vikings lose to the Lions, the Packers, and obviously the Redskins OR Seahawks lose to New York Jets, Green Bay, and Atlanta

2. Rams lose 2 games out of games vs Arizona, the Philadelphia (who will most likely be resting starters sadly), and the New York Jets

3. Cowboys lose 1 more (against the Redskins, although they will lose to Philadelphia tomorrow anyway)

4. Lions lose 1 more against Minnesota, Chicago, or Tennessee

5. Bears lose 1 more against Houston, Detroit, or Green Bay

6. Bucs lose 1 more against New Orleans, Carolina, or Arizona

7. Saints lose 1 more against Tampa Bay, Atlanta, or Carolina

8. Giants lose 1 more against Cincinnati or Dallas (they win the tie-breaker with us if they beat both teams)

Most probable path:
Redskins beat Cowboys and Vikings, finish 7-9

Cowboys lose to Philadelphia in week 15, Cowboys eliminated

Rams beat Cardinals in week 15 but lose to the Eagles (week 16) and then Jets (week 17), Rams tie Redskins in conference record, common games record, and go down to strength of victory. Based on how I believe the final 3 weeks will go, the Redskins should win this category. The Redskins opponents that they beat should have a combined record of 41-71 or so, and the Ram’s opponents they beat should have a combined record of between 35-77 to 39-73, Rams eliminated

Lions lose to Minnesota in week 15, Lions eliminated

Bears lose Houston in week 15 or to Green Bay in week 17, Bears eliminated

Saints lose to Atlanta in week 16, Saints eliminated

Now, for the 2 games teams that will determine everything:

The Panthers need to lose 1 more to get eliminated – they play Tampa and New Orleans

The Bucs need to lose 1 more to get eliminated – they play New Orleans, Carolina, and Arizona

Basically, the Bucs need to either lose to New Orleans or Arizona (VERY preferably New Orleans) while managing to beat Carolina. If Carolina beats Tampa, Carolina needs to lose to New Orleans

If Carolina loses 1 more AND Minnesota or Seattle loses all 3, the Bucs don’t have to lose another game OR the Rams don’t have to lose another game and the Redskins will still be in.

Actually, it's not that far-fetched.

If we win our last 2, it will come down to the Saints being able to beat either the Bucs or the Panthers (The Saints have to beat whichever teams wins the week 16 matchup between the Bucs and Panthers). If that happens, we're most likely in.

My suggestion: Root very, very hard for the Saints to beat the Bucs tomorrow and become a Bucs fan next week for their game against the Panthers.

But...what about the Vikings? They play the Lions. I'm not so sure about that, man. I think Green Bay and the Skins have a good shot, but the Lions? The offensive juggernaut that is the Vikings should be able to beat up on them. Other than that, it's a lot of stipulation, but...maybe.

Or is this saying that the Vikes will get the fifth seed? If not, then maybe it could possibly happen. But, there are still lots of things that need to happen in order for us to win. We don't even know if we're going to win our next two games :/

I'm assuming the Vikings make the playoffs. My scenario above was mostly based upon the Redskins making the playoffs over the Rams/Panthers/Bucs with the Vikings as the #5 seed.

Ah, right, gotcha. Well, I hope we make it, but there is a lot of stuff that has to happen in order for us to make it. It can still happen though. Amazingly, for a 5-9 team, lol.

Gump84-it was very nice of you to sort this all out and it is appreciated from me. But don't forget the other things that have to happen as well:

1) 'Christmas With the Kranks' must gross at least $100 million at the box office.
2) A three foot blizzard must hit Key West.
2) The Washington Nationals must rise from the dead and trade for the entire Yankee lineup.

Then, and only then, if these things happen (along with that other stuff) we have a chance of making the playoffs.

the panthers can lose to tampa bay but there is no way in hell they lose to new orleans.

the most far-fetched aspect of this is that the vikings HAVE to lose to the lions today and dante culpepper has NEVER lost to the lions before.

after that game is over, i give us a better than 50/50 chance, assuming we win our last 2 games.

Lots of plane crashes (where no one dies) but everyone is hurt....

The Skins take the bus and they are on the only team left in the NFC healthy enough to play.

The Vikings do NOT have to lose to the Lions. The far fetched part of it is assuming that the Saints will beat either the Bucs of the Panthers.

ah guys c'mon, have a little fun. with this nfc? anything is possible.... even if we dont make the playoffs, winning the last two would make great strides for the confidence going into next season.

Guys, I know you think it is impossible, but we really do have a great shot if the Saints can beat the Bucs today and then the Bucs can beat the Panthers next week. If the Bucs win next week, the Saints only need to beat the Panthers in week 17, but not today. That is the only thing stopping us from going to the playoffs, other than the fact we need to beat the Cowboys and Vikings. The sad part is if we had beaten the Eagles, we'd almost definitely be in.
